When it works it makes us hard to break down but if like yesterday we don’t win our headers/don’t get wingers back to help/don’t get out quick enough we are at risk from crossed into the box.Dyche prefers his full backs to play narrow (ie) close to the centre backs but this exposes us out wide and other managers are exploiting this!
I think another issue recently, is that when a FB pushes high, the expectation is the rest of the defence shift round to cover (so the CB on that side comes out a bit wider as they all move across) and the DM drops into the space. When it works it makes us hard to break down but if like yesterday we don’t win our headers/don’t get wingers back to help/don’t get out quick enough we are at risk from crossed into the box.
Branthwaite probably heads 1/2 of those yesterday behind tbf but it’s a risky strategy. I think in fairness it’s born out of a lack of pace/physicality from the fullbacks themselves. If they press too wide/high they are getting skinned by half the leagues wingers.
If they tuck in they can make up for that ball behind to an extent/support their CB on that side easier (this relies massively on the winger in front and the DM from that side of the pitch getting back in - shown in the collapse yesterday when everyone was goosed).
It’s a good point, and also explains why we don’t push them on much usually (Branthwaite is our only CB with pace).I think another issue recently, is that when a FB pushes high, the expectation is the rest of the defence shift round to cover (so the CB on that side comes out a bit wider as they all move across) and the DM drops into the space.
The issue we have currently is that Keane is then expected to cover on the left side if Myko goes up. (Their second goal). Had branthwaite been there, I would bet on him to have closed it down/stopped the attack earlier while Myko got back.
So for the supposed expert at the art of defence.....Dyches system is flawed....
Unless Myko went rouge and decided to attack at 2-0 up in the 87th minute....It left the centre backs exposed....Keane had to cover left back....Tarkowski pushed over towards Seamus and they scored ?
Dyche said it's on the players to realise but why doesn't he tell them that mid game...or Ian Woan or the none existent Steve Stone?
I don't know who's to blame?
If Myko decided to do it it's his fault and should be dropped (for who?)
I just can't grasp it....It's schoolboy stuff!
I get you...but then that goes back to Dyche using his bench when players are getting tired?System relies on the wingers getting back to cover and one of the midfielders on that side getting in to help the full back early.
Once legs start tiring what happened yesterday could happen, especially if we don’t win our headers.
I think Pickford could be better for 2 and 3 as well but ideally your central defender reads them and heads it backwards behind.
Absolutely. Almost entirely on Dyche what happened.I get you...but then that goes back to Dyche using his bench when players are getting tired?
Garner needs minutes Tim played well but was knackered...It's basic management isn't it mate? SMHAbsolutely. Almost entirely on Dyche what happened.
You could see both full backs were knackered, Tim was out on his feet. He moved Mcneil out wide and left Myko all alone and left Coleman out to the wolves with Harrison so tired.
Tim is at fault for their 2nd as well because he can’t get back in.
Just proves what an awful fanbase we haveGot 11% of motm votes last season and came second overall and something like 7/8 motm’s.
But yeah, worst left back we have ever had
Said to my old man at 75 “we look shattered here” - didn’t think it would lead to what happened.Garner needs minutes Tim played well but was knackered...It's basic management isn't it mate? SMH
I think he took a knock in the first few minutes. But I’m not sure he is over his injury from before/during summer either. He hasn’t looked right even during pre season.Haven't watched the game back yet (don't want to subject myself to that just yet) but I thought he pulled up with an injury very early on. Seemed to be playing within himself.
