Confirmed Signing Vitaliy Mykolenko

It's another low risk high upside signing though for a relatively low fee. Patterson and Ramsay are being seen as the future of Scotland in the RB position and at his age, he will retain his value for the next few years. I rather 5m to 10m on Patterson than 25m for Royale (sp) of spurs.

God that Emerson for Spurs is rubbish ain't he? One that @Zatara was banging on about us signing too.

Again, not against it. It's perfectly fine for a well ran club. But we're not. We need a right back who's on par/better than Coleman right now.

This idea of age and value compared to performance is skewed in my book sometimes. The tick boxes seem to be - under 25, low wages, good resale value.

If they perform well...that's a bonus.

And I say this because...our squad is full of holes that need bodies in to play straight away.

On the flip side you can day £30mill on a LB and RB development players...or £30mill on another Doucoure....

It's how you spend. We've done it poorly, but still doesn't mean you can't try to get some elite level in.

Disagree mate. I'm not sure which established fullback we could afford at the moment, nevermind one that wants to sign for us. I imagine Patterson is being seen as someone to rotate with Coleman until the end of the season. Would be surprised if we didn't buy another then as Coleman will be on his final year of his contract.

That signing beats going out and paying £30m for Aarons or £25m on Trippier or something.

All depends on who you buy though surely? Say...if a Dumfries-type was available in Jan for £15mill? Slots in straight away.

Not against Patterson coming in. It's going to be a huge jump for him at his young age but we'll still have to put up with Coleman for the majority. Which is fine and will take time.

Elsewhere... we'll have 1 left back we've spent £20mill on who is again, going to be making a huge jump all because Benitez fell out with one.

Meantime putting all that into context... we've got one of the worst defences in the league to fix...

Could that be on the way with Patterson and Mykolenko, add to that Godfrey and Branthwaite with Mina and Keane available. What about Holgate?

Patterson can't walk into the rangers side never mind he's expected to walk into ours at a level he's never ever played at.

You mentioned Fofana and Tielemans....close to £80mill spent on the two. Tielemans was also on loan for a season before they threw £40mill at him. They weren't back up, they were buys ready for the 1st team in addition to already having players in those positions...CB Evans, Soyancu, Morgan. MF Ndidi, Choudray. They have solid foundations.

At the moment we don't.

So again, I'm not against the signings...I'm pointing out that we don't have any foundations to incorporate them.

Its relative isnt it, i expect both Patterson and Mykolenko to need the rest of the season to adapt to the league.

Tielemans i was harping on about when he was 17 ish...Fofana we were linked with the window before leicester signed him.

if we had signed both earlier and for cheaper then theres every chance they'd be top players as they are now.

Could we sign them now? No.

You think Emerson is rubbish? lol what?

On the flip side you expect Patterson to be eased in?

Bit of a slant there...

Wait?!?!?

Patterson youre flim flamming about starting over Coleman...yet you claim donkey Dumfries could be signed at £15mil and start for us?

Mate, to put this simply...id be shocked if Patterson was as bad as Dumfries.

I rarely agree with Zat on many things but Dumfries hasn't been good for Inter. Emerson hasn't been good as well and that is where I disagree with Zat. Maybe he'll be better next season but he's not been good this season, not for the 25m.

Emerson wasnt good under Nuno. People can find my posts when he went there predicting that he would need to adapt + that i wasnt sure if he would be good under Nuno...that he needed a superior manager.

Since he played for Brazil in their 4-1 trouncing of Uruguay he has been good and i am surprised anyone watching him would disagree with that. Is he worth £25mil, we can judge that at the end of the season.

To support my viewpoint behind the change in manager improving his performances along with the adaptation period you can also look at his playing time at Betis where he showcased his talents...which led to the move in the first place.

In comparison, Dumfries is a player known to have poor ball control and has an inability to cross a football -- while playing in Holland. Apparently he was good for the national team as a wing back marauder, well in a big boys league those weaknesses are clear and he'd flop in the premier league as well.

Id better say something about Mykolenko as this is his thread...so here it is.

I like the fact that hes played all the way up the levels internationally. I like that he was promoted at 18 to the full squad and earned his first cap.

Hes won the best young player in Ukraine in 2018 and 2019...you dont usually win that kind of award two years in a row without showing consistency over two seasons.

The boy has won 6 senior trophies. 21 full caps and 32 european matches by 22 is no joke either.

We were linked almost 2 years ago and now were finally pulling the trigger on him...hes highly rated amongst his peers and i think next season is when to judge him.

Mate Spurs fans do not like Emerson and everything I've seen he's been rubbish. Search his name on Twitter and have a look - probably the worst RB performance i've seen against the RS too.

Yes I would expect 20 year old Patterson to be eased in. Spurs paid £25m for Emerson and are apparently looking to sign a new RB according to The Athletic.

I’ve never seen Mykolenko play, so, I can’t judge him, he seems the right kind of profile player we should be looking at. My only worry, is that the fee seems high for somebody coming from that league. Patterson, on the other hand I have seen play, I think he has got great potential and if we can get him for 10 million I think it would be good business.

I must say, Patterson is not the kind of player I envisaged Benitez going for. It will be interesting to see if it is true.

I'm pretty sure the 5 times Patterson has played for Rangers will have put him in good condition to play in the premiership.

Where this will inevitably go wrong is that we are renowned for young foreign players not settling. Kean,Vlasic , Klasaan, even lookman making the move from london.
Unless we have invested in a settling in blueprint we are about to swap one of our most consistent players for an unknown prospect from an area with little success in this league

You do realise that 99.9% of players who have played for Everton in recent time don’t get brought up in the north east of England?

Why do you think Serbians and Croatians generally adapt younger than Ukrainians?

I can tell you the names of at least 10 players from croatia and serbia who left their local clubs very early and played in good european clubs at a great level but there are 0 players from ukraine who left their local club very early and developed well in europe.

it's all about the mentality and psychological stability of the players and ours have not yet adapted for that. they simply fall from one reality to another and, due to their age, simply regress.

but our generation of young players is crazy, they won the U20 World Cup in 2019, so there are a lot of good young players to look out.
