I’ll concede Gerri and Digne, the Yerald and Gomes deals almost single-handedly put us in the financial mess we are in, roughly £117m down the toilet with that pair alone.

Yup exactly, both Gomes and Mina at the time we got them were good buys, Gomes was never ever the same after his ankle break, Mina just couldn't physically handle the league but when he played was arguably the best player on the pitch for us.

Bolasie was always terrible, same for Tosun, Walcott was finished when he arrived and Gbamin hsd a terrible injury (and other issues which kinda never came out)

Your right they were all bad signings but the significant difference (from PSR view) is those 4 were signed across 3 years and for all of them, the club managed to offset some of their (lower) wages through loans or agreeing early termination.
Yerry & Gomes (with the exception of Gomes loan were we still bore the brunt of his wages) were signed in the same window, for the same duration on exorbitant wages and largely the club bore the entire cost of those misguided signings.

Yeah just looked into it, The Athletic have it as 30m euros fixed then an extra 30m add ons but the point you make remains the same: they want their money back on the fee and then skip the add ons so it’s no loss to them.

See your point re Arteta but you would trust a Barca academy graduate to have high technical skill even if they don’t make it- someone bought in then immediately binned off doesn’t have that education. Doesn’t mean he couldn’t be very, very good though and let’s be honest not being technically good enough for Barca doesn’t mean you aren’t for us.

Not really, Kean was a touted academy product who'd had experience in a top league, this lad played a few seasons as a starter in Brazil before being dropped into Barca mid season being stuck with the label of the next Ronaldo/Messi.

That's huge pressure on a 19yo, Kean moved to a mid table at best side with little real pressure on him

The hunger I'd wager is way different in both too, Kean never really seemed too bothered about footy - least doing the hard work side of it.

Barca are a club known for bad signings. But I'd also not associate them with getting it wrong selling young players. Generally speaking if they're moving a player on he's not very good.

Put both those two together and it doesn't look good for this lad. Especially given Hansi Flick and Xavi both don't like the look of him
