"Watch Classic Matches Again"

I was there it was a blood bath from 2 -50 PM onwards, mill wall fans tried to take the Gladys street end blood knives flashing I was in the paddock sickening scenes as St. John ambulance went past with blood dripping off the stab wounded millwall fans!

Not sure how I ended up on this page, but I was one of the Millwall fans stabbed that day. I think in total some 8 of us were knifed before the game, mine was the most serious. But for the skill of the surgeons at Walton Park hospital, five pints of blood, a week in intensive care and a further week under close nursing care, it is clear I would not be here. Whilst much of this is simply history, some misconceptions need correcting. We arrived at Limestreet station on special trains, the police put us on special buses to a point close to the ground and then escorted us to the stadium - it was them that directed us into the Gladys street end. I was in the first group and there was not to my knowledge any intent to "take it". Having passed through the turnstiles and milled around for a while we then ascended some steps to enter the terracing. Having realised a mistake had been made, we then turned and tried to get away from the onrushing crowd. I took 6 inches of blade into my right chest and was then kicked unconscious, my next memory being of holding onto a Policeman's leg, followed by being placed on a stretcher and carried down the side of the pitch.
I am way past any suggestion of vengeance or retribution, but do remember the kindness of a number of Everton fans (2 of whom visited me in hospital) and a few who sent cards.

The mass group of Millwall fans who entered the side entrance to the Gladys street ( Everton main end for fans.) were chanting "Were going to take the Fk in Steet end As a kid entering the paddock side near by my older brother commented what are those nutters up to as we got in we had a perfect view horrible scenes of knifes flashing and the Millwall fans stood no chance as they were pounched on from above, Many Millwall fans got out to run to the opposite end the park end where they should have mainly gone as away fans gathered there - the site of the ST Johns ambulance men with blood pouring through the stretchers was a horrible site, where there any fatalities?
I don't know your situation, but the Millwall fans I seen were out for trouble brandishing weapons as soon as they got in?
Madness glad you survived it was a horrible situation it was as if the Glwadys st fans were waiting for the attack as they were on the Millwall fans like a flash - never seen anything as horrible in all my time visiting a football stadia!
Glad you were looked after, and survived - we got beat 2-0 the result was insignificant with that incident prior to the game!

Yes us oldies moan on here, but if you had seen the Ball - Harvey - Kendall team you went to a home game just knowing what brand of winning football you would see even better away when teams came at us - and the opposition fans would turn to you and reluctantly admit they had been played off the park!
That sets the standard the Eighties team were just as good won more hard to decide which was the better eras
They set the Gold mark as did the 1963 side did -
it was in the days of nothing but the best will do -
I really had high hopes this season for the younger fans to see some glory - only the FA cup left!
You never know things may change for the better!
Keep the faith I have seen the bad years too!
