Watches

They're new enough that I had to go digging a bit and I still don't know if there's confusion/misinformation or what...the caliber 0200 is inside some pretty pricey pieces; apparently they all have a display case back too and possibly the eagle symbol...see Citizen's video below, it starts at what I'm talking about.

The other thing is, the video below calls it a Miyota movement (0950) but all of Miyota's current "premium" automatic movements start with a 9 (9015, 9100 etc).

Maybe they're just going to be a low production number of Citizen branded movements just below the 0200. No matter, either way it's a great choice as I don't think you'll see many around; your avg watch purchaser doesn't associate Citizen with mech movements, mainly their Eco-Drive stuff that the market's flooded with (hell, my Pro Diver is one)...which is unfair.

Thanks for these links. It's not the calibre 0200 but a brand new calibre out this year, the 0950 (a step below the 0200 from what I gather). I haven't found it associated with Miyota, but who knows...

Even if it is a Miyota movement there's nowt wrong with that...I found out while digging last night that they also came up with the UHF caliber that's in the Bulova Precisionist line which I think are pretty sweet as they're a three-prong quartz movement but at 262 kHz so the seconds hand sweeps almost as smooth as a Seiko spring drive. Their 9015 hi-beat caliber has a fantastic rep too...but yeah, who knows. Only thing that matters is that you like it, I was just curious as Citizen isn't deep into the mech movement area in general so maybe they're going all-in now, which would be good. With all the crap that went on with ETA (aka Swatch Group) movements, it'd be good to have another possible supplier to micro brands if ETA start threatening people again.

Is there a helpline to try and talk you out of watch purchases?

Tissot Seastar 2000 professional ?

I'm telling myself it's too big and I should wait for a sub 44mm case.

This thread is your helpline...sorry, call again some other time.

You don't even wanna' know what Seiko Limited Edition mini turtle I came across the other night. Less than 1k made...$%&#&*

Wish I could talk you out of it, but that’s a great looking watch.
From the video, it looks like it would release helium at some depth.
Is that right?

I'm not fully clued up on such things but as it's WR to 2000ft I believe helium can build up at extreme depths, when you come back to the surface that's when it could go pop if it didn't have the release valve to let it escape. Like anyone is taking it deep sea diving...

It's for what you're thinking but the reason for the Helium building up isn't...happens before they head down. But yeah, I don't think any of us are doing any welding on a deep sea oil rig soon. They make an arseload of money, though..mo money, mo watches!

@The binman chronicles that dial...lusty.

I like this guys videos but he's light on posting...if he doesn't work in radio I don't know what he's doing with his life.

Definitely going to hold off buying the Tissot until they make a 2000 in the 43mm case or they make the 1000 with the textured dial in the same fashion.

However if I'm thinking of paying the thick end of a grand why don't I go the whole hog and get something like this:

I feel I'm missing a more 'grown up' watch in my collection and while it is still sporty, it's in the mode of a carrera which was the ultimate goal but a lot cheaper.

This all started as I was going to buy this outright:

Then I thought well the Tissot is only £500 more and then the RW is only £600 more than that. As Ron Burgundy said "Boy, that escalated quickly".

Not entirely sure what you mean with that comment... I'm gonna' guess and say have a look at what Oris offers...their Big Crown Pointer Date is in serious contention to be my next purchase if I faceplant off the top of the wagon again.

Or Muhle Glashutte, Ball, Hamilton...

Both of what you've listed are chrono's, though...so prices will reflect that in a mechanical.

I just meant that even my Tag is more towards the sport side than say a chronograph Carrera - well I suppose it should be seing it's a formula one model. I think that Raymond Weil one is a step towards a watch that can be worn in a formal setting with a suit etc. I'm not quite ready for total classic one yet though so the hint of sportiness that is there appeals. As does 1.5k price tag compared to the 4k Carrera.

The only person I think I know who would need that function is a former university professor of mine. Her area of expertise was deep sea vents

Friend of mine has an Oris.
Striking watch

Like this? Oris Diver's Sivty-Five Chrono...over 4k US though. But something like that? But without the bezel perhaps
