Watches

On par with my comment above about watch companies using a fairly basic movement and charging an arm and leg for it, here is my new Tag. I've never owned a Tag before, but this new version of an 80s classic was very appealing. It has a Selita movement SW200-1 (which is a basic generic movement, and as far as I can tell, Tag does very little modification to the movement), but the overall design of the watch is really cool to me. The rubber strap and clasp are especially well done, and the 12-sided bezel is quite cool.

I love the lume. Below is a photo from the Tag Heuer website:

Looks great! That lume is awesome

I’m in the market for a new strap for my watch (19mm) as the current one is starting to tear a bit. Any suggestions? I’m thinking of a blue strap

These Hirsch straps would work. They come in 20mm but you can easily fit a 20mm into 19mm lug distance (don't do 18mm, better to have a tight fit, than a gap). https://store.fredawatchstraps.com/newduke.html

A bit more pricey: https://strappedfortime.com/collect...siris-box-leather-blue?variant=39635669024952

Also something like black with blue stitching or accents might be cool: https://strappedfortime.com/collect...s/embossed-leather-silicone-lining-black-blue

or this one: https://strapsco.com/product/padded-crocodile-embossed-padded-leather-watch-strap/ (tons of colors, but black w/blue stitching is available in 19mm)

You are a Tory.

Awesome. Appreciate your advice, my friend.
Have never voted Tory fwiw. Not eligible to vote in the UK but still

Do you mind me asking how you got into that? Straight into GIS or move into it from another field?

Convoluted story, since I work for a municipality...primarily via another field (a.k.a. dpt.) that I helped to utilize GIS' capabilities. To help them I had to get to know the people that I now work with. I got to know them during the process and vice versa. It also massively helped that my overall PC/IT knowledge + working/education background also ties in, due to how GIS and a City (which is very centric in how it operates, so internal experience/knowledge is massive) integrate so many different areas.

I won't say it was a cunning plan...it's hard to have any in my working environment since it's awash with rug-pullers (knowingly or not) but, yeah. I could be out on my a^^ at any moment if a city council member decides they know what's best, which happens way too often. They also tend to be fans of visual data, though, for obvious reasons.

Sincerely,
Baldrick

I don't have any experience with the brand, but I doubt many do; they launched in 2017 with a pretty steep price into a very crowded market. They seemed to get good press and do good at marketing (being mentioned in--and paying for--many write-ups in watch magazines etc.). They use a basic ETA movement, which isn't very exotic (but so do many other companies, such as Tag Heuer, etc.), but they do some in-house modifications for the retrograde function. They are generally viewed as overpriced in the watch forums where I've seen them mentioned. But they've also gotten a better reception than most new companies as well.

As always, buy what appeals to you...as you know, no watch makes a good investment, so if you are comfortable spending this $$ on a watch and can afford to, then go for it.
I get that the watch market in general is “crowded” and for a new brand the prices are steep. I am not sure that the market for jump hour (especially with retrograde minutes) is that crowded, and I have struggled to find anything with these features any where close to the price point of Reservoir. Have you any recommendations for a Jump hour watch?

Yeah, certainly if you're looking for that particular combo of jump-hour retrograde, I suspect Reservoir is the way to go--and as you say, perhaps the only way to go at that price. Gerald Genta makes one. The only Jump Hours that I am familiar with were by Perrelet that were discontinued about 10 years ago. You can still find some on the used market (though they don't have the retrograde or power reserve), and the used ones are a bit over-priced in my opinion; they are described here, and a few for sale are listed below. But if you like them, and searched the internet, I bet you could find one for about 1500 or so.

Just bought yet another casio f91w for my wife- she wears it whilst cycling and leaves her phone at homr. But between her and junior they seem to "misplace" (lose) them with alarming regulatory.

I should buy shares in casio.

That watch has been around for aaaaages; an icon of modern design, forget the Royal Oak...probably responsible for half the plastic in the ocean. lol

The only watch I’ve ever owned

Absolute design classic and does the job nicely

Love coming on this thread and reading about all the other types although I am far too much of a mingebag to buy one
