Posted this before Benitez was appointed.....but Lampard for me....certainly better option than Rooney
He’s my choice over Rooney if they are going down the route of young and upcoming manager. Play offs, Champs League and FA cup final in a very short time.
I think the list of possible managers is the worst I can remember in 20 years.

Lampard cant set up a defence. Thats the major issue with him.

Rooney has 5 wins, 10 draws and 7 losses and would be 19th without the pts deduction. No idea if thats decent with the squad / but morale must be low.

They showed a couple of team set piece plays which seemed to be innovative a month or two back.

Players would (in theory) want to play for an ex superstar player.

In reality though he binned us off as a teenager and i dont see how its a move to get 'fans onside'...Ferguson would be my pick over Rooney
Not advocating for us getting him in but he’s done an amazing job this year at derby with a squad that is a mix of kids and older pros that where scrambled together.

Maybe in a few years after more experience he may become an actual possible manager for us.

Why would anyone want Rooney as a manager? Never came off as the sharpest tool in the shed and now hes supposed to outsmart other managers with tactics?

No thanks.

Dont want Lampard either, hes dont nothing to deserve a chance here, just like Rooney. How about we try to replace the current calamity with a good manager, not keep scraping the bottom of the barrel.

Might not be the sharpest tool in the shed academically but he’s got some footballing brain on him, that’s what we need.

Like Arteta he had done nothing in management but Arsenal took a chance because of lack of decent managers around, Lampard would be ok right now IMO Rooney though, no

In all honesty, he has done well this season. It's a squad in free fall, that he inherited in the bottom 3, of a club that have now gone into administration.

I get the Lampard comparisons, but Lampard was given big money to spend. This season to have them competitive, Rooney has done a good job.

I personally wouldnt have him as manager here. If we wanted an Evertonian Id go Ferguson. But he has done well.

I presume you are being sarcastic?

Howard Kendal and Joe Royle spring to mind.
i said
“history shows we’ve never won anything without an ex-blue in charge “

I wasn’t being sarcastic I was stating fact , in our modern football history we’ve never won anything without an ex blue in charge . Howard , catterick , big joe
