Wayne Rooney

Boost for 3 games then chaos and a deepening of the old boys network that would sink the club before the stadium was built. Franny Jeffers back as DoF; Colleen as CEO.

Stick with Benitez and let's see this Rafalution through.

You was going so well

I watched an online documentary recently at the Derby training ground and the way Rooney has set things up is very impressive. He was shown in a good light and the lad has experience, he is a winner and fundamentally he knows what it means to be an Evertonian. I would sooner have Wayne as manager than Benitez, someone with passion for the club and someone that is more in touch with the modern game. I was prepared to give FSW a chance and I gave him more than one but his decisions on things like substitutions is baffling and it has created toxicity between the fanbase which is just not good. I want what is best for Everton and when you look at the options of who is out there then Wayne seems to be the best choice, I would sooner him than Fat Frank any day of the week. Look at the difference Slippy has made at Villa, they are playing with better shape and confidence and don't give me the he had experience at Rangers, me Ma could win the league with Rangers.

Anyway, I'm defending the rationale of going for someone like Rooney more than advocating him. I want Lampard as the next manager.

The top players of the noughties will be the top managers of the next 20 years and we need to get with the times. My theory is that modern footballers are very different and only top players they can remember will naturally command their respect in a dressing room. If we keep obsessing over experience and PL proven players and managers, then we will end up in the only league where those things actually count for something - the championship.

There seems to be an awful lot of fear of giving someone a go, based on the posts in this thread. People seem to have lost all sense of objectivity and are gripped by fear of the future. This is what this club has done to people. All hope and optimism has been crushed.

Can we just have someone who has no affiliation with the club or the Premiere League!
Do something different for once.

Only caretakers have had links to the club. We actually haven't tried this route since kendall (third time I think?).

I can't really agree with this point because it's only been age group teams where this has been an issue. Our managers have had zero affinity with the club.

none of our managers since since the 90's have had any affiliation with the club.
I'm talking about recently, after Moyes and more about the nonsense that is PL experience.

Lets look completely away from the PL
Our last 5 managers have had PL experience and it counts for nothing.

Because our obsession with "experience" and "PL proven" managers has put us in this mess.

We need a young long term manager. Evertonians seem terrified of giving someone a chance and it annoys me. We need someone to come in and prove themselves, not someone here to top up the pension before retirement. Football has moved on and the top players of the noughties are going to drive the innovations in coaching over the next 20 years. Either we move with the times or keep appointing utter no marks like Allardyce and Benitez.

God damn right I'm terrified of 'giving someone a chance.' Personally, I don't believe we should be in the business of 'giving a chance' to any employee at the club who is over 15-years-old.

Look, I'm not against a young manager. But it should always be the outstanding candidate who gets the job. Certain prerequisites are daft. In fact, you've just hinted that you believe the club already have a prerequisite and labelled it an 'obsession.'

No group of top players from any era have dominated coaching in the last quarter century at least. What makes you think this is gonna be the case going forward with top players from the noughties?

At the end of the day, as long as we don't have any discernible football strategy at the club, it doesn't really matter who the manager is. Might as well as just hire someone like Allardyce to keep us in the prem while the stadium is built so Moshiri can sell up at a profit, and hopefully take BK with him. Then we hope that someone better might come in and replace them

Yes - I believe the club is obsessed with exeprienced players and managers and are unwilling to give a chance to talented young options. They always take the boring, so called "safe" choice rather than striving for better. They need to move with the times and get someone with new ideas, not archaic ones from a bygone era like we see under this clown we have at the minute.
