Transfer Rumour Wayne Rooney

How the hell is signing him a wrong message? It is likely the best message we can make this summer. If Rooney comes here, he wants to play here. He rejects big big money in China, MLS or Middle East, he rejects just to sit on the bench in MU, where he has no motivation to achieve anything else. He would reject them for us. If he does it, he clearly wants to play here and would likely have that motivation to help this club finally to achieve something big. He likely accepts a wage in our wage structure and likely would be on the same wage as Romelu. And he still deserves it. He assisted or scored a goal every 120 minutes this year. Romelu every 103 minutes. Barkley every 213 minutes. 14.4M twitter followers. Everton as a club has 1 million of followers. He is clearly one of the biggest legends in the history of English football, massive name and still is a great player and is only 31. He is exactly the player we need to keep here players like Lukaku or Barkley and to send a message to other quality players to come here. Massive difference if you meet Valencia and Kone or Rooney on the training ground. Who the hell says no?

Who would we drop though? Barkley? He's not going to come here, take a big drop in wages and want to sit on the bench. We've been liked with Tielemans who also plays in that deep lying forward position and, for me, he offers better value in terms of fee, wages and potential longevity at the club.
4-3-2-1: Robles - Coleman, Williams, RFM, Baines - Gueye, Schneiderlin, Davies - Rooney, Barkley - Lukaku

If we buy a player like Tielemans, he can battle for the place with Davies, Rooney or Barkley. If we want to achieve big things, we need competition.

I agree we need competition but I just don't think Rooney is good enough for us now and I can't see us playing Ross and Rooney in the same team. He doesn't fit the high tempo pressing dynamic style Koeman wants to play and would cost ~£20M to buy and would take up ~£15M in wages on a two year contract or ~£22M on a three year deal. For me, the costs (and risks) outweigh the potential benefits. Plus, I can't stand the idea of that snide Stretford swanning about the place!

There are more players in the world...

It doesn't have to be Valencia, Kone or Rooney and we are banned from getting anybody else.

If you take into account marketing potential + footballing ability alone, I think this is a no brainer.

I don't think we are in a position yet to attract anyone in the world class bracket - Rooney will be coming here as he supports Everton and is from the local area.

Because he's very clearly been put out to pasture by United.

I disagree that it is the best message we can make this summer. We want to show people we're a club moving forwards, not looking behind us.

I'm not bothered that he finally wants to play for us after he gave the best years of his career to United, I hope he wants to play for us for the rest of us life and doesn't get to. He made his choice years ago and I see little reason to welcome him back.

Does he deserve the same amount of wages as Lukaku would get? Will he contribute an equal amount to the team?

Don't even get me started on you bringing up Twitter followers, deary me.

Signing a has-been Rooney from a United who can't wait to get rid is not going to send a message to other quality players to come here. If anything you'll get the wrong type of attention from agents thinking they can also squeeze a last pay day out of Everton for their aging players as well.

Not worth the money it would take.

Not enough to make it worth paying a large fee and large wages for him. In my opinion.

Plus the additional media interest is only going to land us in the exact same situation as Man United are currently in. One famous player draining the wage bill and hogging the limelight whilst the media ask why he isn't playing. The answer being he isn't good enough anymore.

I wouldn't want us to pay a fee for him. We'd be doing United a favour taking him off their wage bill.
