Transfer Rumour Wayne Rooney

Rooney offers a lot more than just what he can do on the pitch. If we're going to make the leap as a top club in Europe we will need players in the dressing room who have actually won things. Also as a mentor to the young talent we have. On the pitch, I think Rooney in a part time role could offer a lot. If we have aspirations of competing in 4 competitions next year, you can't tell me we have no place for Wayne Rooney.

It's a ridiculous idea. I have always liked the lad and never joined in the condemnation of him. But linking us with an over the hill fading super star is just plain bad for our image. It's stale thinking from a few seasons back. We had the best of Rooney when he was here first time around practically, because the lad was pretty much the finished product when he left. To end up here at the end of his career with a player who couldn't hold a light to that 17/18 year old would be an embarrassment, not to mention a huge waste of cash and a poor signal to send out to our youngsters coming through and the first teamers we want to keep hold of.

There can be no second chance for Rooney even if he wanted it...which I highly doubt, tbf to him.
A great post.

Rooney coming back would be humilating for Everton. If he's any ambition left he'll go to a mid-table Premier League club who'll guarantee him being their star player, top earner and give him 30 plus starts a season. Do one Wayne, let that be the end of it now.

I want him to sign now just to see your head fall off mate :)

oh yes can just see it now in training Rooney saying to the kids ' when i was a UTD Fergie said........'

Yeah let's sign loads of has-beens who won trophies 'cos that'll definitely push us onto the next level, won't it?

What's Phil Neville up to? Why not sign his brother Gary, too, as competition for Seamus?

I reckon we could also tempt Redknapp (Jamie) out of retirement to add a little trophy-winning steel to our midfield.

ffs, worst argument ever wanting us to sign "proven winners" who are clearly miles over the hill. Sort yourselves out.

The magic of sight, chief.
The suggestion is that "his legs are gone and he can't run", he may have lost some pace. Who in our current team in an attacking midfield role or striker position would you say is better tha Rooney other than Lukaku if he is not going to improve our side? The stats for last season and this suggest he would improve our team.

Rooney is still a huge global name/brand. This would absolutely help our brand recognition as a club. I know some of you don't care about that, but in the same breath you complain about our lack of commercial revenue.

Question: How much more would our shirt deal be worth with Rooney in the squad?

Are you on the glue lad?

Answer: Not much if at all. Did we start getting improved shirt deals when we signed Gazza or Ginola? No.

Not much to be honest. How many extra shirts do you think he'd sell?

Signing a thirty something player is not saying anything about where the club is at present...it is simply a signing that the manager thinks may make his squad stronger. The cost and the wishes of the player are the two imponderables.

Our squad also contains Holgate, Lookman, Barkley, Yakubu, Davies,Besic,Gana,McCarthy who are all still under 26. We are linked with Michael Keane who is only twenty three.
We have already shed a number of older players and in the summer will lose at least two more in Jags and Kone.
The squad is well balanced between young and older players.

If Rooney comes I am happy, if he doesn't then that is fine too, but to suggest that a player like Rooney at 31 years of age has nothing to contribute to an Everton is so silly it can't be taken seriously. Certainly not the player he was, but he would add a dimension to our team in football intelligence that we don't have at the moment.
The experience he would provide in a European campaign alone would be immense.
Rooney is still a top player, not world class anymore, but would still be an asset.
