Transfer Rumour Wayne Rooney

There is no room for sentiment in football,He's blatantly no good enough anymore....Leave all that gooey eyed nostalgia to Kopites and Geordies.

United are no better than we are and mere fact we are thinking about taking one of their bit part players is bad news,Let alone signing someone for commercial reasons! Jesus wept

Never understand this shout Joey when you factor in his wage. How many shirts would he have to flog to cover that...

A lot more than our fans would buy, we would have to sell thousands every single week, the far east market won't buy Rooney shirts when once United get some big new signing.

Agree.

If we are sincere with competing with the top, we need to move on from being Manchester United's feeder club and retirement home.

Rather than looking at players who are clearly past their best, who wouldn't get in any team above us in the league - we should be looking for the next generation of talent.

Rooney is finished at Man Utd, I don't think he fancies China (at least not yet) and nobody else would take him. He'll want a move back, Moshiri will want a 'name' (just look at how much he talked up Koeman's name/profile) - but Wayne Rooney is not a positive statement, he's a statement we're happy to take other clubs past it castaways.

I think he'll be back this summer, I also wouldn't be surprised if that's why Barkley is holding off on any contract.

On this thread's subject, I would like to hear the thoughts of @Eggs
I enjoy the wit and banter on here, but let's be honest, there is a massive volume of cluelessness going on as regards insightful football knowledge.
Eggs is an exception and his considerations are worth listening to.

That's the only explanation I can figure out as a player he is too expensive for his age and now fitness?

Perhaps a desire for a name, a 'star' - one that is attainable. We know that was important for Moshiri with the manager.

Moshiri: “For our club to compete in the north-west of England, which is the new Hollywood of football with Guardiola, Mourinho, Klopp, we needed a star to stand on the touchline so I got Koeman,” he said.

Does a Wayne Rooney signing encourage others, Tielemans/Koulibaly of the world, look at Everton any more positively?

I wouldn't have thought so, but others would disagree.

I’m still in the yes camp with Rooney. Granted footballing wise this is a move that’s 2 years too late. He’d be a decent squad player, I’m sure he’d have a several games where he’d turn back the clock but for the most part he’d be frustrating because he isn’t that explosive player we hated because he was that good.

Off the pitch - He probably won't sell as many shirts as people think and even if he did, with the current deal in place with Kitbag we wouldn't be able to massively benefit anyway. I do however think the 'returning home' story and all the media attention it would get would be worth it. The problem we have is no-one is taking us seriously in the media and as a result all other fans. That’s why no one considers us a threat to the top 6. It’s because we fans are, in general, quite ignorant when it comes to what is happening at other clubs and only know what the papers or Sky tell us. It’s no surprise to other fans that our best players are constantly being linked away because they don’t see the changes our club have made over the last year. They are constantly told that plucky little Everton always sell their best players and the players that we're linked are more likely to go to one of the 'top 6' because we can’t financially complete. Then there are things like our under 23's success and the stadium progress which have gone almost completely unnoticed - especially when you consider the attention that monstrosity of a hole-punch that lot built got and if it was Spurs or Chelsea's youngsters winning the under 23's league it would be heralded as the start of a dominant new era for those clubs.

It's not bitter and Sky etc. don't hate us like some think. They just don't care about us. We don't register on their radar unless we’re playing one of their darling teams. Signing Rooney would make waves – small maybe but waves non the less. I agree it would be far better to go out and buy a superstar who’s at his peak maybe outbidding one of Sky’s previous top 6 in the process but that’s unlikely to happen at this moment in time. Rooney could get the ball rolling though and the story of the local lad, the boyhood blue who left under a dark cloud but returns a record breaker and all that would get our name and Moshiri’s vision out to the world. We’ll suddenly register. He may not be able to boss a match like he use to but Rooney still sells papers, still makes front and back page news. It won’t be all positive but no publicity is bad publicity. It could provide Everton’s global brand with a quick and massive leap forward.
