Let's be honest Rooney and Lukaku is wet dream material from the days of watching Vellios and McFadden up top.

If we got the midfield balance right, I don't care what anyone says, those two would score goals simple as. We wouldn't nevesssrily get work rate, pressing, aerial prowess, but they would bring goals no question.

Rooney at 31 with a full pre-season & regular football still has an awful lot to offer ...... I'd take him without a doubt.

Proven winner of which we have NONE in the dressing room currently. We need two or three more with that mentality where semi-final defeats are not good enough or a draw away from home is deemed a success.

We need a blend of winners, talented youth & a change of direction - we have settled for mediocrity far too long.

Ginola and Gascoigne were totally past it when we signed them, it's nowhere near the same in comparison.

I get why people don't want us to sign him, but I think the past it shout is unjustified as he's still a better player than half the players at the club.

Hopefully only until we get someone better which is what I would expect with Rooney. Both would be ideal squad fillers though.

Absolutely.
Anybody trying to compare the signing of Rooney with that of Gascoigne or Ginola cannot be taken seriously.
Rooney is younger and still has lots to offer.

I had a quick look at the Rooney profile on Wikipedia and I was surprised how many games he was involved in and how many goals he scored(9) this season.
He was isolated at Utd this season as the manager went down a different direction, but then Schneiderlin was isolated as well , and De Bruyne and Lukaku were previously at Chelsea , all by the same manager. Mourinho is a very focused manager , he knows what he wants and if you don't fit in then you are out..it doesn't mean that you are not good enough.

Graeme Souness recently described Rooney as a player that needs to be playing every week to get the best out of him and he may not be wrong.

Williams is, Bolasie was until he got crocked. If Rooney is a Koeman signing then he will be (even when he stinks the joint out) it's an ego thing.

His legs fell off about 3 years ago mate.

Indeed, rooneys basically in his mid 30s in terms of conditioning.

His physique and body type combined with him playing competitive football regularly from the age of 16 means he was always going to age quicker than other players in his age group.

I'd love to be proved wrong and see him regain form at the club he loves, would be a great story... But when your body's done, it's done. No amount of will power can reverse that.
