Yes, there is. But look at the picture as a whole.

You said "Depends how you define success, being a nice person is successful in my opinion" linked to a post listing his achievements , linked to a post claiming he was a loser.

I simply stated that further to his achievements making him a success, being a "nice person" made him a double success (by your definition of the word).

You did not look at the picture as a whole. It is a matter of opinion at the end of the day, you have yours, I have mine

You seem to base your opinion on his time at United and charity work, whilst I base mine on his time at Everton, the manner in which he left and
litigation brought against him that he lost which I also linked to

I'd say doing for many others by helping provide a better life > upsetting a few thousand fans who support a group of men chasing a pig skin. Oh, and he made a mistake also that was rectified using the legal system that made him pay for his crime. Totally unforgivable that.

We'll leave it that. I don't want to be responsible for creating another Xena, internet warrior princess.

How much would you value a player in the dressing room who is a proven winner, won everything there is to win domestically and has the desire to prove everyone wrong with his boyhood club and bring success to them?

He might not be the Rooney in his prime but he can offer so much more than anyone else we have brought in. Plus along with Williams klassen jags Barry we have a squad starting to grow with leaders. So even if he isn't going to come in and rip the league up, in the dressing room and media wise he can offer the club so much more than a cheap striker from Spain or a few players from bottom half of the league teams.

I agree with nearly all of that but Jags is no leader.

The complicating and deciding factor here is..as it always has been..is money.

Utd want Rooney to leave, but between now and the end of his contract he is owed millions by the club . Utd will want him to leave and if possible at no further cost to them.

Everton want the player but cannot and will not come even close to giving the kind of money the player currently earns at Old Trafford.

The player wants to leave Utd and return to Everton but if possible he does not want to lose out financially or as little as possible.

Stretford is also in the picture and would happily sell Rooney to the Chinese or anybody at all if the price is right.

Ultimately, if this is to happen imo we a three way compromise.

You started it though by jibbing your mates off!

Personally I wouldn't do anything like that being an Everton fan but each to their own.

I was talking about Colin Harvey more and his totally ignoring of the part played in his development.

Not a Moyes fan by the way but he was the manager at the time.

Gary Speed showed how to do it the right way. Kept his stuff to himself to protect the club, proper gentleman and true Evertonian. Rooney likes us when it suits him.

Sad what happened to Speed, but he left us in far more [Poor language removed] than Rooney did... He was captain, refused to play because of reasons "he could not say as it would damage the club" (if you don't want to say anything, so nothing, none of this cryptic bullshit that led to countless rumours ever more) and left us part way through only his 2nd season with us, a season when we struggled and stayed up on the last day.

Rooney left in the summer when we were already safe and his fee saved us from financial ruin. He also played 2 whole seasons with us, more than Speed ever did, and played more games for us than Speed did too.

Hate Rooney all you like, but let's not rewrite history.

Great post. Personally I think a loan is the only option that will appeal to all. United (reluctantly I’m sure) can save up to 125 grand a week, as much a 4.5 million over the season which is no small amount. Rooney continues to get paid full whack (with Utd paying the other 50% of his wages)and he gets to play another season in England – for his boyhood club if that still means anything to him and try to force his way back into the England team for one last hurrah at a major tournament which is what he really wants and if he does well that snake Streford can whore him out to China or the States the season after.... United might even get a decent fee that will cover or even better the money they spend subsidising the remaining £125000 a week on his wage.

Let's not forget Rooney was only a teenager, just had a wonderful summer with the England squad in the Euro's before getting injured. Everton had just narrowly missed relegation and were in serious financial problems. We struggled to maker two veery cheap signings, in Bent and Cahill (turned out to be very good signings, but no one's was excited by them when they arrived). There was also serious back room issues. The new chief executive resigned after only a few weeks and one of the share owners, tried to oust Kenwright.

Everton were the favourites fort relegation and got stuffed 1-6 on the first game of the season. Both the England Manager and his Agent, wanted him out. The biggest club in the country wants him, will maker him rich behind his dreams. He will likely win loads of trophies. Every 18 year old in the world would move.

I don't think we should still hold this against him. I'm not sure if Rooney should come back or not, but for football reasons not because he left under different circumstances back in 2004.
