Where's the root of Everton's problems?

What causes Everton FC to continuously let themselves and the fans down?
For the past 5 years a lot of money more than ever before has been pumped into this club but we cant seem to get to the next level.

Why is this?

Is the mentality within the club from the top?
Is it Moshiri
Is the DOF (Brands & Walsh)?
Is it the managers?
Is it the players?
Is it the wrong type of players for certain managers styles when they arrive?
Is all of the above combined?

I mean all jokes aside we've had 4 managers and 2 DoF within 5 years that cant be good but how do we fix it?

...and no Ye Ma isn't an option.

It can’t be Moshiri nor even Brands and Walsh.

This malaise has been eating away at us for decades before they came on the scene.

Our problems are rooted in the early 90s.

We alone among the big clubs failed to capitalise on the Sky/EPL revolution.

And we were left standing on the platform as the Premier League Express train left the station...when we should have been sat in First Class along with United, Arsenal and the RS.

Mr. Peter Johnson done for this club :(

From the outside it seems like there's no overall plan or hierarchy.

Implement a structure with a clear technical head. Is this the DoF? If not who?
Agree on a general playing style and get the DoF or whoever is in charge to recruit both coaches and players to complement that stlye.
If everybody internally know's their role then you can set appropriate targets, measure performances and take necessary action when needed.

Instead we've flitted from Moyes to Martinez to Koeman to Silva, it's beyond bizarre. I don't believe CA was ever the plan but the owner thought it was too good a chance to pass up and went all giddy. So we now seem to have the manager making big calls on transfers but who is he accountable to? If it isn't Brands then why is he sending match reports to the owner? Do we indulge (gamble) CA to be left with his players on massive wedges by next Spring? What is the five year plan, seems like Chelsea lite, spending our way to the UEFA Conference League.

To reiterate this is all my thoughts from the outside, I may be completely wrong on everything.

Those first 5 games of the season were the best football we've played in years. For one reason or another we haven't had that 11 playing together since.

Ancelotti has also managed to get a tune out of players that were written off under Silva.

For me, there is no way you look at this season compared to last and say we are worse off.
For them to play well first few games shows that you can actually get some sort of a tune out of these players, that just makes the rest of the seasons form even more worrying.

There's 6/7 teams that are way better than us.
We lost against Sheffield one of the worst premier league team ever, remember. So you telling us that there are only 7 teams better then us LOL. You havent watched the football Everton played all season? A few undeserved wins (Arsenal, Liverpool, Wolves, Leeds, West Ham) crap football with not a single idea how to play , tells me that the problems are much much deeper. In our current form we are the all favourite to go down next season!

It's the fans fault for not being there.

Problem is the fans will win us points at home. But we will be worse away due to the atmosphere. So we'll be back where we started. But you are right, for nearly every team the fans make a big difference

I am confident we'll win more on the road, even when fans return. We can do a low block and play on the break quite well, we suit playing away now.

How frequently are teams fouling their opponents across Europe? Issue number 338 of the CIES Football Observatory Weekly Post answers this question using the data provided by InStat. At the level of the five major European leagues, the lowest foul frequency was measured for Arsenal (one foul every 10’44”), while Getafe is at the bottom end of the table (one foul every 5’44”).

Apart from Getafe, the highest foul frequency per big-5 league was measured for Hellas Verona (5’54”), FSV Mainz (6’30”), AS St-Etienne (7’10”) and Fulham FC (7’48”). Conversely, apart from Arsenal, the following teams committed the least fouls per minute: FC Barcelona (10’29”), Bayern Munich (10’19”), SSC Napoli (9’37”) and Nîmes Olympique (9’13”).
Out of all the 31 leagues surveyed, the extreme values were measured for FC Zenit (one foul every 12’34”) at one end and for two Greek teams at the other: PAS Giannina and Volos NFC (one foul every 4’51”). Eleven Greek top division clubs are among the 20 ones committing the most fouls per minute. Conversely, eight Russian teams are among the 20 with the lowest foul frequency.

I think that says we stand off teams and aren't aggressive enough.

I always think we do better when playing with aggression and making sure the opposition know they're in a game. Not dirty, just competitive.

Yep, it is a big problem for us. Especially in midfield.

Allan and Doucoure are individually quite good at playing with aggression and harrying opponents but when we play them in a midfield 2, they will eiither only be half as effective as someone has to stay disciplined or if they lose discipline they'll leave big gaps that the rest of the slugs in our team can't cope with.

Davies has to be the sitting midfielder for the remaining 2 games and let Allan and Doucoure do their best work in midfield.

Look to get a proper DM in summer.

Poor recruitment is the main issue for me, coupled with a weak mentality running throughout the club. If you can't see that a prospective recruit is too slow, too cowardly, too old, lacking mobility, lacking ability, past their best, lacking goals, can't shoot, can't break between opposition lines.......then you know something is rotten at the club.

Everton are the home for players with mental problems now. (Bernard,Keane, Gomes..)

Doucoure and Davies best blend in MF for us. We need a lot better than Allan in terms of contribution.

I like McGinn at Villa. He's an utter 'kin nuisance to play against; he's one SAF wanted United to get off Villa last season...and he knows his midfielders.

Sometimes you guys just don't see the bigger picture, you have to appreciate how much effort goes in for us to spend so much and not improve. The talent and the dedication to this task is second to none.

Yes we are witnessing something very special here and everyone should be savouring just how good we are at it.

Someone should find out why so many New Best Things show up and quickly fail. It can't all be about settling into a new country and learning the language and being single and alone.

It's not like Davy Klaassen couldn't speak English - International and Europa League Finalist.
Cenk Tosun hadn't become a solid international striker
Sandro Ramirez wasn't banging them in from every angle in La Liga
Moise Kean wasn't an Italian International with a sparkling future already as a teenager

But each and every one of those has been or is a spectacular failure

Mo Besic - World Cup brilliant performance against Messi, never done a single decent thing in an Everton shirt for SEVEN YEARS

Van der Meyde - 5 years on the pay roll getting high and drunk

So, are we buying the wrong players or just destroying them?
