Who could replace Martinez ?

Do I detect a change of view Dave?

The earliest Bill will sack Martinez would be say after 12-14 games into next season, assuming no significant improvement in form this season but survival, and a continuation of poor form in the first third of next season.

The Board would obviously revise their new player and player wage budgets towards the end of this season, but I really doubt Martinez's job is in any danger.

A couple of weeks ago I'd have nodded in agreement with that (and probably said something like it). The attitude and demeanour of the players (and manager, tbf) has utterly shocked me subsequently - to the point that I see your scenario as wistful fantasy.

There's nothing I'd like better for you to be right and me wrong on this, believe me. But I just dont see kenwright acting in isolation on football matters. I believe the future sale of the club is all likely to be mixed up with any managerial decision in the coming weeks and it'll cost Martinez his job.

Hope I'm wrong. Viva hope!

No manager in the prem could achieve less than martinez has this season. No excuse not to get shot of him IMO - and the threat of relegation should make it imperative.

Would you have got rid of Moyes in his second season?

Would you have got rid of Kendall in '83? Was there any excuse then. Kev?

@daz4matty i really cant say. all i can say is that we are having a bad period and martinez is a progressive manager who is needed if we wanna go forward as a club. ask me this same question if we drop out of FA cup and lose next three games. lets see where im then (if this would ever happend like)

I think he'll allow this to drift another two weeks tops - all the while sounding out possible caretakers/replacements. If it isn't showing signs of improvement (which it wont because these players are determined to tank these games) he'll sack Martinez and install his successor

I think you're wrong mate.

If we're in real danger of relegation come early March then, with 10 games to go, Kenwright might sack Martinez then, but even then, I doubt he would. 29, maybe 28 points or more after Stoke away, Martinez' job is definitely safe and the whole player situation will then be dealt with in the Summer, one way or t'other.

This is purely speculative, but if Roberto were made redundant and had David Moyes not taken the job in Spain and would you guys take David back to the club?

Don't tempt fate mate.
Its the getting worse which gets me.
Before the hull game the manager and players were getting stick and rightly so but the reaction from them in that game was shocking.

Should we have kept walker on in 94? Should we have persisted with Smith?

You can't use a couple of examples to prove anything as they can usually be countered with a contrasting evidence. Sometimes you have to go with your gut. Moyes never got us embroiled in a relegation battle even in 03/04 - this time the abyss beckons.

It could be too late then though,i don't think kenwright would take that gamble if it came to it

Tbh and I am no moyes lover - yeah I probably would - but then I'm a realist not some fantasist like Martinez and his acolytes on this forum.

agree, but this is not the time to panic. we have already started a recovery now that we all have admitted we are utter crap.

Maybe, but he knows that we've got a good squad so if push comes to shove and he has to change things then a new manager would have to pick up ~12 points in 10 games to more or less guarantee survival

Kenwright might have a soppy smile but he's a tough old bugger and will want to give his choice of manager every chance.

Well that's nonsense.

Moyes had us 15th in the league after 13 games in that season, taking us as low as 16th in the table. We were consistently 14th or below for the majority of the season.
