I'm still very much on the Pantilimon train

Pantilimon at 2-3 Million would be a decent outcome for me

Good shot stopper and better than what we have while not also breaking the bank

Of course if we're prepared to break the bank for Butland, I'm all over that

you'd turn down de gea or courtois cos theyre too young?!

did i need to put "within reason" into my post? i said ideally, not that i'd be dead against it. I just think there's too many posts saying "Young keeper/right back/winger/striker to build for the future" as transfer options. We can't have a squad all full of youngsters, footballers jump ship so quickly these days that it's almost impossible to do what united did in the 90's.

The way I see it, we'll either spend most of the budget on this illusive number 10 Martinez wants and then go cheaper for the new keeper, or vice versa

I think Martinez will go for the former. In that case we need a keeper to meet the following criteria

- Better than Howard
- Better than Robles
- No more than about 5 Million if possible
- Someone with experience in the League or someone from outside the League who gets good write up from scouts

For me, Pantilimon meets all that criteria. He's played in the Premier League, has won trophies and if Sunderland go down we will probably be able to get him on the cheap

I'd love us to spend big on BOTH the Number 10 and Keeper, but I just don't see it. As a result, we'll have to get creative

I personally see us picking up a younger unproven keeper from abroad on the cheap, with hopes of him turning good

Basically, I don't see us getting Yarmelenko and Butland in the same window, and Martinez will probably want the attacking player over the defensive one, because Martinez

Sunderland will be recalling Pickford back from Preston as Pantillimon has been awful.

no one is saying we need a 20 man squad of under 25's. utd in the 90's had keane, cantona, sheringham etc to compliment the young players.
we also have experience to go with youth like jagielka, baines, barry, coleman.
prefer to sign a keeper around mid 20's if we can.

oh mikey. do you really see pantilimon being the keeper to get us top 4? he's barely an improvement on howard.

Good one for the future to look out for is Dillon Phillips of Charlton Ath. He's 20 years old and currently on a seasons loan at Cheltenham Town and performing very well indeed.
