A report in a Melbourne paper headed 'Rooney snub for Everton', he's quoted as saying "I believe I will be a Premier League manager.
I believe I'm ready for that 100%. And if that is with Everton one day in the future that would be absolutely great".

He went on to say "I've got a job to do at Derby County which is important to me".
Which paper? Was it the Herald Scum, by any chance? Would be right up their alley, that kind of headline.

It’s a bit far fetched for Lampard’s detractors to suggest that we could have got a Zidane or a Poch. Even Graham Potter turned us down and he’s lost 40% of his matches at Brighton!

Lampard is a good young manager with a good track record. Derby hadn’t been near the upper echelons of the Championship for many years and yet he got them to the play-off final at Wembley. Likewise he guided Chelsea to a top 4 finish and an FA Cup final just after they sold their best player Hazard. And let’s not forget that Lampard wasn’t allowed to sign a single player during that time due to the transfer embargo that had been imposed on Chelsea.

People like to moan for the sake of it but it really doesn’t help. Let’s get behind our new manager and at least give him a chance.

TBH I'm happy the anger has disappeared from the forum.

People have realised that they went OTT with Benitez and have vowed now to give the next manager full support. Which is all I ever wanted.

Job done.

It blinded some. They couldn’t see anything else. I think they probably answered their phone with ‘yeah but Benitez’. Very unfortunate. His going does remove that division though. We simply have to back the new manager, there’s no angle through which an opposition can be mounted. The behaviour around Pereira has been childish but surely there’s nothing stopping people from finally backing Lampard.

Obviously been some kind of hold up. Still think it's done, but to announce a new manager a day before or on transfer deadline day, when you desperately need multiple new signings, shows what a shambles of a club we are. Can't even wrap up a free agent in a timely manner.

Chill out GT.

This is more than just a new manager… a lot more.

It’s done.

Dotting the I's just takes a little time. And can't announce till 100 percent complete. Lampard will have been discussing transfers and given his opinion days ago. Once he verbally accepted the job things would have got moving on that front.

Have half the feeling that the club is holding off until tomorrow to do a massive PR blitz on deadline day (when the media circus is in full force)

Lampard, his coaching team, Cahill as Technical Director and 2-3 players all unveiled in one massive 'feel good' offensive in order to try change the media narrative on the club.

If done right something like that could actually work, but it's Everton so....
