Echo and the Bunnymen, St Georges Hall May 1984.
The gig was commissioned as a one off special for the Old Grey Whistle Test ( remember that ! )
St Georges Hall is Liverpool`s old Crown Court and as well as the interior being wonderfully ornate, it was built for it`s acoustics.
The whole place filled full of dry ice for large parts of the gig, which massively added to the atmosphere.
The whole thing was electric, the setting, the stage and light show, the sound and the Bunnymen played what must`ve been one of their all time great sets.
( Plus we had the best team in Europe too and the whole city was alive that year, it was a great time to be a young lad in Liverpool, with the footy, the clothes and the music )
Closely followed by Big Country at the Academy in Manchester in the 90`s.
I`ve no idea where they came from, but about 95% of the crowd was Scottish, both lads and girls, all dressed in tartan and in klits, all bladdered and all up for it.
It was more like a massive private party, than a gig.
The whole gig was a mass singalong and one big mosh pit
