Who's your money on in the takeover 'battle'?

Our wage bill ballooned, Goodison was refreshed, the debts were repaid. There is more to it than the headline ins and outs.
Yep but salaries go out as well as in….he definitely out his hand in his pocket….it wasn’t all as a benefactor type activity though…he converted to equity assuming he was going to be successful…..I’m just saying the amount he spent without the club footing a chunk of it through increased TV rights etc in those first two to three years is exaggerated.

Possibly, however the fact remains that the attraction of Bell/Downing is that we can be fairly certain that their intention isn't to try and make a load of money out of Everton and/or make us tenants in our own stadium. There's an element of safety with them around having the best interests of the club at heart.
I don’t think we should make those assumptions, they are hard nosed businessmen 24/7 regardless of who they cheer for on a Saturday afternoon.

And even if, as fans, their motivation isn’t purely monetary, the dream of owning their club can bring ego into it over what’s actually best, as it so often did with Kenwright.

I wonder if, reviewing what they’ve supposedly put on the table in terms of the majority being a secured loan on the stadium, Bell and Downing themselves, if they were objective and honest, would say that it was the best option for the club with real money seemingly being attracted.

Bell & Dowling would represent a massive step backwards.

Even Championship club Leeds Utd have had a big player in Red Bull buy into them a fortnight ago.

Going back to the days of 2x local lads owning the club in a league of oil states, multi billionaires & multi club groups would be a disaster.

Don't quite understand the love-in with Downing and Bell. Great that they are Evertonians but that doesn't make them great owners or leaders of a football club. You all remember Kenwright, yes?
Exactly this. Forst and foremost, they’ll be doing it to make money, not fund the dreams of the fanbase. You would hope that if they took it over, they’d turn it into a properly functioning business (better sponsorship deals, merchandise deals, increased match day revenues etc) but that doesn’t necessarily mean a better deal for fans; they could easily decide that the club doesn’t charge enough for its product and prices go up.

A massive step backwards from a man who has almost single-handedly run our club into the ground, saddled us with nearly £1bn debt and forced us to suffer 3 consecutive relegation battles? Really?

100% Mrk.

This type of ownership is akin to what would have been acceptable in the 80's & 90's. The League/revenues have evolved and we need to evolve with it.

Harping back to the days of plucky blue owners who go for a pint with the fans after the match is a receipe for further stagnation. Throw in the massive loan from MSD.... bad news.

Ignore the village idiot, he’s blinded by wet dreams of bragging about money again, not by the long term well being of the club

Are you also on Bell & Dowlings payroll ?

Tell me how loading the new stadium with a loan to purchase the club is for the well being of the club ?

If they were Americans you would be hitting the roof my friend. You've fallen for the "two blues who love the club" nonsense that BK's acolytes peddled for years when it was clear he was out of his depth.

Personal wealth isn't what matters anymore because owners are not able to plough cash into clubs to achieve success. What matters is having good commercial contacts who can readily supply credit if needed and capitalise on commercial opportunities.

Regardless of who buys us, a huge amount of debt will be involved. In fact, even before Covid/Ukraine, the plan was always to finance the new stadium using debt. So that's not 'bad news' at all - it's actually very sensible.
