Who's your money on in the takeover 'battle'?

For sure.

So where is your line?

Not arsed. Think commercialism and the money in the sport has killed it for me. They've created a league where you now need ridiculous amounts of money just to get midtable.

But I do think the history and what the club stands for can't be thrown away. It makes us who we are.

As for a club, we had our "oh look we've got money" moment and it almost killed us.

Getting some Sheik or anyone similar wouldn't be a game changer on the field (the system doesn't allow that now) but would just hopefully make us sustainable off it for the future.

Think that's all I care about now really. Everton still being a competitive club on and off the field down the line, that doesn't have to worry about not paying the bills.

I certainly wouldn't be celebrating like we'll be challenging City next year put it that way. It's just the way the sport has gone.

Everton win, I'm happy.

Someone I've never heard of gets their head chopped off, don't care.

Thats my line.
If I was going to take my wumming into the Everton forum, I’d probably be more subtle and not post these 2 things back to back.

Always assumed the pitch would be bigger.

Leaves plenty of space for the running track though I suppose.

Morality and football ownership: I think it's difficult to ask fans to make a stand on a hideous regime when they see their political leadership every day not only ignoring genocide but handing arms to others to carry out genocide and throw a protective cloak around them to prevent them ever being tried and punished for it.

We live in an imperfect world. Do what you can to stop bad things happening, but to expect fans invested through multiple generations in a football club to turn down a chance for success is off the charts mad. It's what we do to take pot shots at other fans when they have that good fortune. Rightly or wrongly, that's the way it is.

It's just entertaining for me reading all the Mary Whitehouse pearl clutching at the prospect of Ahmed Ali Bin Saud (made up name) potentially sitting in the directors box and empty threats of not supporting the team anymore.

Where's the line?
Ta for the elaboration mate.

Well, kinda same - I'm not gonna stop supporting and everyone who does will be inevitably back when we start winning. It's the way of the sport(s) sadly - money talks.

The line is sadly not up to us anymore and we can draw imaginary ones in the sand all we want - it should've been drawn up about 32 years ago with the re-creation of the league, or at least in the last 25 or so. Blackburn won by buying out the best players for the most part, United were doing it for ages, but it was fine, as it created a steady income stream. Rovers failed in the end, but when they were doing big money transfers - the money was pennies compared to today; 25 mil in the first 3 years or something? A laugh currently. United fell off after being the highest valued and richest club in the world for about 25 years, buying the best players money can afford and having a genuinely top manager to use them - now they just spend insane money while facing no penalties.

Then came the oligarchs and pumped even more money, made an even bigger income stream, but also rewrote and bent the rules as much as they can so their products can hold value. Now Sheikhs and beheaders are using the same tactics for sportwashing, while bloating and making the sport boring for many, as you know the outcomes of games, and you know that "great player X" will be wearing City colours soon.

What did the Prem/FA do in both situations? Nothing, just enjoyed the insane income they had and probably paid each other 100s of mils in the process, and now they've woken up but cannot even make a dent in City, Chelsea et al, so they're going after the financially smaller but still famous fish - us, Forest, anyone that's not "sky 6", but the damage is already done and everyone knows whose interests they serve.

The best thing for the Prem as we know/want it would've been the creation of a Super League and removal of the "sky 6" so they can play there, it seems, but they would've bent over backwards to keep them for sure.

Not a great age for sports really.

Great morals mate ... but
There is no suggestion whatsoever that we are being bought by the 'Saudi state' The only links (as far as I know) is that one of the bids may have an individual Saudi involved. I would consder it slightly racist to oppose that bid on that basis.
Not all Germans were Nazis mate.
All of the reports I’ve read suggest the deal is backed by a Saudi royal. That’s a bit different than just some random Saudi citizen, and I think you’re bang out of order to call me racist for having a problem with that.

You should read my post again mate. My point was that whether it's a member of Royalty or not, it is still an individual person that is being touted and that is something totally different to being bought "by the Saudi state or a consortium lead by them" (to quote you)
I never called you a racist, I said "I would consider it racist to oppose the bid on that basis"
I stand by that.

“one saudi” isn’t a state

we don’t even know if the bid will be accepted

if people don’t want to support us if we was bought buy a consortium with one in that’s your choice

Saudi Arabia is a monarchy. As such it’s fairly likely that members of the royal family are involved in their politics to a greater or lesser extent.

Obviously it needs to be seen *how* involved the individual is involved in the politics of the country - but as previously stated there is a massive difference between a wealthy Saudi citizen, and a member of the royal family.

I think supporting the club is separate from championing it's owner. Goading and celebrating the owner ala City is where I think a good chunk of the fans draw a line.

The money doesn't provide "success" though. Good structure and football decisions still need to be made regardless of money.

We should've learned from this.

Thats why im backing MSP for now.

$3.75mil offer for Spurs rejected.

Imagine what that could do for us...

With of couse McLaren for a sponsor :p
Zat, the MSP bid for Spurs was not a takeover it was for an investment stake of 40% with Levy and co still in majority control.
