Bar Arrigo Sacchi’s AC Milan teams managed by Italian mangers are generally not a good watch. Being risk averse comes naturally to Italians with their emphasis on being watertight defensively.
Even Carlo’s Milan team with a prime Kaka and Pirlo were more machine-like than eye catching. The Italians are responsible for the Brazil national team adopting a more pragmatic, defensive Italian style after Tele Santana’s majestic ‘82 Brazil side of Zico, Socrates, Eder, Falcao lost to the smash and grab Italians. Brazil unfortunately then went for the Italian ethos of success over style. The Brazil team that went on to win the ‘94 World Cup with Dunga as captain are not loved in Brazil, but the ‘82 team is.
Mourinho is also from the Italian school of pragmatism, and the stuff his teams have churned out is largely forgettable.
