Wildlife in your Garden

Put a few bird feeders out this year and have been making a concentrated effort to keep it stocked. Could easily stand in the kitchen for hours watching them come and go so I'm gonna have to make the further effort to actually learn what's what as far as species go.

Plants are flying this year as well thanks to the bird feeders attracting all these slug and insect predators into the garden.

Make sure you keep them clean and the area around them clean mate, as the birds can catch a lot of nasties from dirty feeders and tables đź‘Ť

I thought likely a sparrowhawk, but was unsure.

Have seen her 3 or 4 times in a week, twice with a caught chick. Gruesome but fascinating.

There’s one that visits my parents garden and plucks the smaller birds of the feeders in mid flight.

As you say gruesome to watch, but amazing at the same time, as it adjusts itself perfectly in mid flight, to present itself perfectly to snatch the bird off the feeder.

Yeah, it’s an incredible bird, and fascinating to watch, although my missus is somewhat less amazed by the natural wonder of a bird of prey eating a sparrow chick alive in our garden.

Another day, another Sparrowhawk strike in the garden. More often than not it's female Sparrowhawk strikes on pigeons, this time it was a smaller male taking a Starling.
I didn't see the actual strike, but must have only just missed it as the Starling was still alive when I opened the blinds.
Unfortunately I had no time to get pictures as I had obviously spooked it and it flew off taking the still struggling Starling with it.
. . . and another one  Male Sparrowhawk again with a young Starling again. This time I did managed a quick picture before he (again) flew off with his prize.
