Wildlife in your Garden

Has anybody ever laid their own flags? If so how hard is it? Labour costs so much for jobs around the house.
Get the level correct with a lage piece of 2x2 put a fall on it on your land area running away from your house - put a top membrane down a permeable one - then lay a 5 - 1 cement and sand dry mixture as the base using a good -rake lever each time for each flag then use a rubber hammer to hammer the flag down after they are all laid - brush in a dry 3-1 cement sand mix - the condensation over nights will set the cement and stop weeds between the flags appearing afterwards ........
It's not hard if you prepare your area like I stated above use your 2x2 all the time on two rows to check the levels as they go down like a jig saw ....preparations are the key.....

Thanks Joe. I assumed I had to have the fall towards the gutter/grid by the back door but from what you say I need to have it at its highest point there and goint towards the lawn. Nice one.

You can run it to the grid in one area by it with a slight fal - using pegs and your long piece of 2x2 will satisfy youmon what gradient of fall you need firm down your base well,to avoid sinkage etc it's not that hard - I used to,lay the old 3x2 s what a backbreaking job that was to park my car on in my 4 th house .......

Spent today digging soil from the wood behind the house to fill a raised bed. I had said to Mrs C that I would make her this raised bed and put up a fence. However she insisted on "getting a man in". He put up part of the fence and the raised bed. It took me a day finishing off the fence and today when I started filling the bed it came apart. £340 he charged us. I screwed it back together using 4" screws and I am building braces to put in the bed to secure the outer planks to. Hopefully that puts an end of "getting a man in", might even be worth £340.

Bloody squirrels keep annihilating the bird feeders. We have hung them in every seemingly unreachable area/place but they get to them every time. As admirable as it is annoying..
