Women's Euro 2022

There are plenty of ordinary people who have to change careers after a while. Normally without the luxury of knowing it'll happen.
It grinds my gears when people shout the "its a short career" excuse to justify obscene footballers wages - so at thirty go get a fork lift licence like normal people. Obviously this applies less so, currently, for women footballers.
Tbh my wife's a teacher, a tough gig that a lot from the outside just see as 9-3.30 with massive holidays, but she'd admit that even for the rubbish teachers (of which there are plenty) its a job for life on a decent salary and conditions.
Im not trying to justify typical footballers wages, im trying to justify women footballers wages which if we're putting a figure of £4k/mth £48k per annum gross, over 8-10 years... is not massive money.

Average attendance in the WSL last season

Arsenal - 3,486
Aston Villa - 1,639
Birmingham - 732
Brighton - 1,766
Chelsea - 2,969
Everton - 1,021
Leicester - 1,947
Man City - 1,917
Man Utd - 3,567
Reading - 828
Tottenham - 1,753
West Ham - 1,465

That’s just for games at the grounds they play at most of the season, United had one of the biggest attendance’s of the season, a crowd of 20k+ when they played us at Old Trafford

Do you actually watch the football or a creep?

I will tell you for a 100% fact that the Everton attendances are always more than put out in the open, so the average is more, there is a charge Everton have to pay based on what the amount of people that is in the ground lol

Especially when you have to put a lot of your life on hold.

Most players study at the same time as playing football so they can have something career wise after their playing time is over.

I mean I’m not sure it will ever match the quality. First female premier league player is some way off
That's 2 different things. I doubt we'll see a woman playing in the men's leagues. There are too many other factors that will prevent this. They are unlikely to ever match the physicality of men's football, but there is absolutely no reason for the technical and tactical quality to match the men's game.

.....and the associated hype.
Don’t forget that Sky et al manage to hype the most tedious game into the stratosphere at least once a week. For the Women’s Premier League to properly take off financially, sadly it will need to move away from terrestrial TV.
I think the women's game would benefit from staying on terrestrial TV. I hope it doesn't become as commercialised as the men's game, because that would ruin it. I wish men's football was focussed more on the sport than the business.

This was what Ian Wright was saying after the match I think. Wants to keep it out of the hands of Premier League!

I agree with the sentiment. Sadly there will now be plenty of influential folk on the sidelines who will see this as a money making opportunity. Plus, the elite players themselves won’t miss the opportunity for additional reward.
Success will bring it’s own problems and challenges.

It depends whether the powers that be make a stand. The pundits were saying after the game that certain stadiums and sponsors wouldn't go near the women's game and they had to beg to get clubs to host their games. I hope they tell those clubs and sponsors to do one and prioritise the ones who have been there from the start. Also, keep gambling sponsors away.

I'm not sure there's so much interest in the women's club football, so Sky or whatever wouldn't go for it.
It's the historic tribal quality of the men's game that's the thing. I could be wrong.
