Try this on for size - A lacklustre England stumble out of the group and then get sent home by the first decent side they meet. No peaking at the right time or riding momentum to be seen.
I still don't know what point you're making here? I expect England to be beaten by the first decent team they meet, but whether they've stumbled through the group or absolutely smashed it with a goal difference of +12 won't make any difference to that.

Yes it would. If they win every group game by 3 or 4 goals and are instantly booted in the 1st opportunity it just makes it all the sweeter.

Nah wouldn't call it that, just love the meltdowns when they inevitably lose.

Plus it's a team picked by media/team allegiances, not by who is actually better. If it was they'd probably sleepwalk to semi finals every tournament.
Lots of people are genuinely seething about England mate, not saying you yourself are but generally speaking it's true. Despite the fact that we have basically sleepwalked to a semi final and a final in our last 2 tournaments.

There used to be a pride in Everton players being picked, like 4 of them in the first 11 in 1986 WC. Fans seem to fear they'll be injured if selected nowadays, so would rather it didn't happen. I prefer it myself (for the WC anyway).

And no wins of the whole thing to show for it, that's what I mean. Criminal with the talent pool, but it's okay, because Henderson got to play in the Euro final... for some reason.

Can't wait for ultimately unnecessarily defensive football against a side there for the taking, like Italy were, but to suffer because a defender lives in Kane's space the entire game and this is England's only outlet.

That Shaw goal was the worst thing for England in that final

Nah, 3 at the back with Walker being one of them against a team that doesn't warrant that was the worst thing.

And a middle of the park pivot of 2 players hellbent on retaining possession and playin short sideways passes with 0 ounces of creativity between them.
That was the problem, at that time we didn't have a central midfielder who can play. Even now the only one we have is Bellingham and he is only 19

The tactics were bad, but then you go ahead and think you can afford to play passively too. It was a matter of time and scoring early gave Italy too much time.

Really? Lucky you don't need central but attacking then.

Winger - AM - Winger:
Grealish - Mount - Sterling and vice versa;
Sancho - Grealish - Sterling
Sterling - Mount - Saka
Any variation of those 5 that you can think of. Throw in Bellingham, Rashford in that same mix.
Who did Southgate pick? Henderson to come in and change the game after the inevitable Italy goal lol and Mount as a winger (spoiler: it doesn't work, it's why he doesn't play there).

Now, and I know it's wild, but play TWO forwards! Imagine! Kane already roams a lot - put DCL up top, Kane to roam behind him, as he does for Tottenham for the last 10 years.

So yeah, when some players HAVE to play for some reason, or because they're flavour of the month - doesn't matter if it's Southgate or god himself, nothing will happen. IN FACT! England looked great against Denmark playing one of my proposed line ups from above like.

To say "we didn't have a X" is honestly not true in any way.
