Really? Lucky you don't need central but attacking then.

Winger - AM - Winger:
Grealish - Mount - Sterling and vice versa;
Sancho - Grealish - Sterling
Sterling - Mount - Saka
Any variation of those 5 that you can think of. Throw in Bellingham, Rashford in that same mix.
Who did Southgate pick? Henderson to come in and change the game after the inevitable Italy goal lol and Mount as a winger (spoiler: it doesn't work, it's why he doesn't play there).

Now, and I know it's wild, but play TWO forwards! Imagine! Kane already roams a lot - put Dominic Calvert-Lewin up top, Kane to roam behind him, as he does for Tottenham for the last 10 years.

So yeah, when some players HAVE to play for some reason, or because they're flavour of the month - doesn't matter if it's Southgate or god himself, nothing will happen. IN FACT! England looked great against Denmark playing one of my proposed line ups from above like.

To say "we didn't have a X" is honestly not true in any way.
The players you've listed there are all attacking midfielders. And Rice and Phillips both played in the Denmark game too. We don't have a No.6 type player who can really play football. Except Bellingham who is not a genuine 6. All the players you listed above play mostly as forwards for their clubs, including Mount who admittedly can play further back.

Brother.
--------- Kane
Sterling - Mount - Saka
Philips - Rice

ANY BACK 4.
Pickford

This is what I mean. Who you change Sterling - Mount - Saka for from my examples is up to you, still will do better than just Philips and Rice on their own.

Also this was the team against Denmark, no idea why you're talking like football stopped in the 70s - arsed about 6s and 8s.

Two holding midfielders, 1 attacking, 2 wingers. This is the way.

I don't know what you mean about the 70s mate lol

But I mean I agree with you I prefer either 433 or 4231 myself and I think the only time we played well with a back 3 was in the Germany game last year. All other times it's been underwhelming.

But I think it's simplistic to say all we had to do against Italy was to play a back 4 and we'd have won. Italy's midfield was the best at the Euros and would've outplayed Rice and Phillips in any formation I think.

Nah wouldn't call it that, just love the meltdowns when they inevitably lose.

Plus it's a team picked by media/team allegiances, not by who is actually better. If it was they'd probably sleepwalk to semi finals every tournament.

I mean posters here who aren’t English. For some reason England has them all messed up. The welsh and Americans; playing against England is their World Cup final.

They would have, that's why you put Mount in there and it will work better.

The Italy game was absolute crap, even for a final - decisions were poor but it somehow reached pens and the consensus was "we should be proud". Nah, a game lost before it started, just prolonged it by about 120 minutes lol

I give not a single toss.

Just not arsed in the slightest about the WC in general tbh.
As I said earlier - same, but I'll probably end up having the TV on while the games are going on lol I just like the sport, cba with the rest of it though.

This one is very underwhelming, has to be said. Not even vuvuzelas or anything like that, hopefully they include bedouins and camels in the ceremony and every pre-match somehow, idk.

I'll watch the games, only cos there'll be no meaningful footy of any other description.

Looking forward to the mid-season break from Everton though lol
