World Cup 2022

They don’t want the World Cup.

Why the hell they bid for it, won it, and decided to welcome everyone makes no sense.

You can Sportswash without forcing awful living conditions for fans, terrible working arrangements and bending your beliefs to make yourself look good.

All of which has failed. Got a friend who’s there at the moment who paid £145 for a “Bottomless” brunch today, and they stopped him at 8 drinks.
Apparently the head honcho out in Qatar blew a head gasket when he saw the Budweiser beer tents outside the grounds, in their agreed positions.

Orders given to move them all out of sight, pronto.

Qatar had finally agreed a plan for beer sales a couple months ago, but now senior royals in Qatar are uneasy about booze being so visible around stadiums. So operation hide the beer is now underway:

For Qatar, upsetting Budweiser is the least important of its concerns. Of all of FIFA's sponsors, Budweiser almost certainly matters less to Qatar than any of the others. For FIFA, it creates tension with longstanding partner that has paid millions. Current deal worth about $75m

Shame for you that the WC is in Qatar, hopefully you’re there in 3.5 years too.

Still hope you have a great time out there.

They seem to be reneging on all the so called “allowances”. The BBC article on the fanparks and lack of shade seem to be mightily concerning.

Over 15,000 migrant deaths and people are just now starting to wake up to the horror show of Qatar. I have no doubt someone there thought buying off the world media would be like buying off FIFA, because with FIFA it was so easy.

This is in no way an endorsement or disagreement with that mate, but for reasons that are way too boring, (pardon the pun), to explain, I have researched, (looked at Wiki) the construction of the Doha metro network. Built, obvs for the WC.

Its mostly underground, again, obvs, broke world records for the sheer number of boring machines running at the same time, and won tons of awards for its construction in the tunneling world.

And in the 6 million man hours it took to finish, not one hour was lost to a safety incident. Let alone a death.

If only there were a way we could have known what a train wreck this would be........

According to the guardian, they're putting all the England Wags on a cruise ship moored offshore, so they can booze to their heart's content outside jurisdiction. And of course out of sight of the tabloid paparazzi.
