Mind you their game against Italy during the tournament was very, very dodgy if I remember correctly.

Ha yeah. I was 12 at the time and was just excited about the US not sucking but I do remember watching the Spain South Korea match and knowing even then it didn’t seem quite right. Wouldn’t be surprised at all if Qatar was doing more shady stuff behind the scenes. Just hope it doesn’t work if they are

This is in no way an endorsement or disagreement with that mate, but for reasons that are way too boring, (pardon the pun), to explain, I have researched, (looked at Wiki) the construction of the Doha metro network. Built, obvs for the WC.

Its mostly underground, again, obvs, broke world records for the sheer number of boring machines running at the same time, and won tons of awards for its construction in the tunneling world.

And in the 6 million man hours it took to finish, not one hour was lost to a safety incident. Let alone a death.

I have no doubt on paper that was the case. And a bit sad for the Filipino who I guess died there but didnt Filipino Doha death. But Ill just take the word of Amnesty and Human Rights Watch, and thats what they say in the meantime. Its also kind of amazing that of the 35-40 they admit to on World Cup stadium sites that they have recorded almost every one as a "natural" death such as blunt force trauma.

No two ways about it, it certainly was. Spain had two perfectly good goals disallowed. One for a non-existent shirt pull after Korea had scored an own goal and the second one in extra time was ruled out cos the linesman flagged for the ball going out of play before a cross came in when it clearly hadn’t.

I will absolutely ignore anything and everything that takes place outside the game time. I may yet scale that back but that is my position right now.

I am so conflicted about this World Cup being in Qatar. My present position is that I will watch some games but absolutely only the time when the game is on. I will absolutely ignore anything and everything that takes place outside the game time. I may yet scale that back but that is my position right now.

I am totally conflicted. As a Welsh fan, not having qualified in my lifetime, this is a once in a (65 year) lifetime gig and I’m going.

Whilst I have reservations about going, I do think that the noise now generated, would have been far better invested by those nations and individuals, who are suddenly principled, at the time Qatar were awarded the competition.
