World Cup 2022

My rant isn't against the beer part per se but that it's just yet another thing in the long long long long long list of things Qatar never should have even been considered for hosting the world cup with. They agreed to XYZ in order to put forth a bid and have basically reneged on just about every single one of them.

Yeah I'm guessing they were all "Oh you can totally sell beer! No worries at all. We'll be happy to accomodate you"

All whilst they had their fingers crossed behind their backs

Can someone very clever edit a previous budweiser world cup advert so that all the beer and slogans are removed and the glasses and bottles are all empty but the spoken content is the same.

I sense a good chuckle on the books...

Or just do that Man City video with the two "supporters" in a pub like environment enjoying a delicious pint of water.

Qatar have played FIFA like a Stradivarius here, haven't they?

Basically told them everything they wanted to hear in order to get FIFA to sign it off and turn a blind eye to the human rights abuses and now FIFA has rocked up they've basically said "it's our way or the high way" and FIFA have totally buckled like the cowards they are

If they had any balls they'd stand up to them and say "you do this our way or there's no World Cup and we'll just have it in the summer in a country that will play ball and can organise one at short notice"

Really ? Let’s pack up because of a toxic liquid isn’t being sold in a country that prohibits it
BBC News reporters in Doha today are reporting a notable lack of the visiting fan. World wide fans seem to have voiced disapproval of the country of choice admirably and in the way that matters the most. If this festival turns out to be an embarrassment and an economic flop for Qatar then it's a job well done in my opinion.

No, but come on, the Qataris are well versed in controlling the sale of alcohol, so it would have been pretty easy to control the sale of beer etc within the stadiums only, thus preventing pissed up fans fighting in the streets outside.

I just feel sorry that the fans can only drink Budweiser - a truly terrible beer - and have to pay 12 quid for the privilege! I really do hope this World Cup is filled with scandal and ends up an unmitigated disaster on every single level. Maybe then there could be some change within the UEFA / FIFA organisations, but probably not as money will always talk in the end.

It is my sincere hope that one of the reds that bunked into the corporate area in Paris for the hilarious CL final does similar at whichever stadium in qatar, quaffs as much champagne as possible then voms it all up on the sandles of the highest profile dignitary in said corporate area.

American Budweiser is a truly disgusting beer. Hopefully this WC will see them get plenty of criticism.
They'll be dancing in the streets of Czechia where the real Budweiser came from.

There’ll be more sanctimonious broadcasters and pundits there than fans, taking the Quatari shilling while hand wringing and telling us how shocking it all is.

so long as those hands are their own or a member of the opposite gender they'll not run awry of the 'bureau for public decency'...
