Sorry, this season.

And don't blame limited appearances. That argument doesn't stand.

In the vast majority of games Kev has started. In the ones he hasn't it has been Lennon or Del or, on two occasions, ClevZ in his place.

They have all had more than enough minutes.
Of course it stands.

Deulofeu and Lennon have started 5 league games between them this season, and one of Deulofeu's was in a position he was patently unsuited to and has never played for us before. If you don't class that as limited appearances I don't know what you would. Mirallas is different. He's had games but not played well in the main. I still think he's not been used in the same way as Bolasie but there's no argument that he hasn't done a lot to suggest he should be the first name on the team sheet.

I think Deulofeu had a spell last year before christmas that yannick wishes he could have and has never had. I can't agree with that statement.

They all now need to step up and prove they are better than they have been showing though, they have that chance now so let's see what happens. I wish all our wingers were on fire then competition for places would be awesome.

Fair enough, I am maybe being a bit churlish about Del, but mainly due to the disappointment of him this season. Yes he had a good start to last season, but that is a distant memory now, he needs to get his finger out again.

Deulofeu's best game this season came when he played up top.

Other than that the only other decent display he's put in is when he came on at HT against Sunderland.

Other than that he hasn't had any impact on games he has either started or come on in. That isn't good enough.

To be fair, he's started what? 3 or 4 games? and been substituted all but once. I completely see what you mean regarding he hasn't been good enough - we know exactly what he can do, my argument is why not get him back to his mercurial best instead of persevering with someone who isn't very good, hasn't been very good his entire career and isn't going to get any better.

Koeman paid a kings ransom for him and feels obliged to play him for fear of looking wrong.

Yes, his best game out of 3. The others being away at City where it's hardly surprising he didn't run the show (but he did have a couple of good moments) and one away at West Brom. A flair player doing better at home than away isn't exactly surprising.

His sub appearances have been fleeting in general. Other than the Sunderland game you mentioned, the longest he's been on the pitch is 31 minutes. As I said earlier, it's normal for subs to struggle to make an impact - particularly when you're bringing them on when the team is losing, as has usually been the case.

This isn't the Deulofeu thread though, and i'm not trying to say he's the best thing since sliced bread. As has been said, it's up to others to step up to the plate now and show what they can do. Whether that's the players on the books at the moment or new signings means absolutely nothing to me - I support Everton not individuals.

This to a word.

I actually think hes been one of our better players so far, but I do tend to agree with this. When did assists even start getting recorded? Are 4 assists some sort of achievement now? I bet Scott Gemmill topped 4 on the regs.

I can answer that one, Mount :)

In the mid/late 70s they were trying to promote "soccer" in the States.

It was an era when Pele, Beckanbauer, Best, Rodney Marsh and others went out to play fir teams like New York Cosmis, San Jose Earthquakes and Tampa Bay Rowdies.

Sports fans in the States love their stats.....so the soccer people came up with a bunch of new ones. Principal among them being the "assist" :(

IMO this is a totally irrelevant statistic as the "assister" is only as good as the quality of the finisher and the "assisted" has scored the goal irrespective of the quality of the pass he received..

For example.....Rom would have been credited with an "assist" at Burnley when he was pushed of the ball by Bolasie.

And the most absurd example is Tim Howard getting an assist for punting the pall from our goal to the Barcode's box and Rom slotting :)

Essentially it amounts to the last player on a team to touch the ball befire a teammate scores a goal....provided it hasn't touched an opposition player in between.

It seemed to die away for a while but our friends at Sky made it a thing again a few years back and so here we are.

And no doubt it is a massive thing among the FM fraternity ;)

You'll get an assist from the ball bouncing off your arse on the half way line, into the path of Lukaku who then takes on 9 players and scores.

The fact that Bolasie has 1 goal in 14 speaks volumes really. We knew he's about a 3-a-season player, and he's providing it big time with us.

Strange then how lots of the same posters who criticised Bolasie when we signed him quoted those self same 'assist' stats at palace as a way of showing he was crap

I find players who provide goals for their teammates more regularly than other players do are usually the better ones...

This has been said on numerous occasions on here.

It was his fee that was making him untouchable.
