Young EFC Players Out On Loan 17-18

I know it's all relative, but it's interesting the comments about Pennington's ball playing ability. That seemed something of a weakness for him in his outings for us, although I suspect alongside Williams he'd look like Bobby Moore.
I thought, in the relatively few outings, more that his weakness was being slightly ponderous with someone quick running at him (like Williams is as opposed to Jagielka). At the top end of the PL you will get quick skilful and experienced players who will take advantage, in the same way that Davies discovered yesterday when Banega gave him the runaround. But it's all a learning process, either to rectify or to mask faults. Not everyone is blindingly fast - they can make up for it in other ways.

No. Either way, I'm sure he'll have a career at at least Championship level. A good player.

I thought he looked comfortable with the ball, looked to move right and accept it from the GK to move the ball forward - a bit like Distin used to move left in Martinez first season. There was one move he initiated by picking a neat pass to a guy in the centre circle , who moved it quickly right and the third guy was in on goal. I think he's the type of "stout defender" who will get better with age, a bit in the Jagielka/Cahill mould. If Leeds continue playing good football like this and are in the promotion race then he will attract attention if he similarly is playing well.

He's a left winger mate, played almost every game last season on the left wing and was the league's top scorer.

His pace and dribbling ability make him the perfect winger, he's to small to be suited as striker. Especially when he plays in the Prem.
The only game I saw where he played was the Belgian super cup i think a couple of weeks ago where he came on for 20 minutes or so...he looked lost on the left side and keept trying to come centrally from where in fact had one of the best action of the game (strike on the post)...

Watched the match and noted 2 instances where his footballing ability created chances for Leeds. Both chances began with him playing a long diagonal ball on the floor out wide which allowed Leeds to play the ball forward quickly. The first instance resulted in a goal. Hopefully his ankle injury is not serious. Surprised more players don't have their ankles taped given the high likelihood of rolling over them.

EFL Carabao Cup
Nottingham Forest - Kieran Dowell started and was substituted in the 63rd minute of a 2-1 home win over League One Shrewsbury Town

OS Match Report

Twitter stuff
59' #NFFC 1-0 STFC: Kieran Dowell's free-kick is blocked by the wall before his return strike is comfortably held by Henderson.

Fan comments
Dowell 5 - Not as good as Friday but given the conditions I'm not surprised.
Dowell looks like he could be mustard one week & gash the next.
Dowell 5 - Touched the ball about 3 times.

(Also in the Forest team: a certain Apostolos Velios...)

Barnsley - Joe Williams started, conceded a penalty and was taken off in the 89th minute of a 4-3 win over League Two Morecambe

OS Match Report
"However, just a few minutes later and Morecambe were awarded a hotly-disputed penalty. Joe Williams was adjudged to have fouled his man in the box and up stepped captain Michael Rose to slot home confidently beyond Adam Davies."

...very interesting comments from the Forest fans re Dowell, much the same as we have made. Be really interesting how he manages a full season in open-age football. I hope @davek regularly reads @atrottel excellent summaries, they will help inform all of our views on these young players.

Leeds United fan forum 'reporting' Pennington out for 6 weeks with ankle ligament damage.

..he could look back one day and think this mightn't be the worst news. He's made a good start, appears to have won over the fans so it will allow him to settle into the club and get to know his teammates. Hopefully he's back a little earlier and regains his place.

Interesting about Dowell. His talent has never been in doubt, but his consistency has. This will be a great test to see if he can perform on a regular basis.
...to perform on a regular basis in the Championship...which for a player of his type means absolutely nothing.
