Your stance on Martinez AND what would change it?

Calm yourself down. Ferguson was a bad bellwhiff most of the time, but to actually try and do some performance comparison between him and Martinez makes the point you're trying to make look silly.

Managers tend to use guarded terms like unacceptable for performances, Martinez doesn't. He believes that Evertonians need to change their view in line with his. No chance.

Calm down?

I'm not comparing them in terms of quality and success. You claimed that you'd seen Ferguson, in a post match interview, admit his tactics/players weren't good. My point is that I never saw him do that until months after the incident/game in question - if ever.

I'm not saying your wrong, I didn't see every interview the man ever did.

No, I don't believe Martinez believes that at all. I just don't think he wishes to use the terms that you and some other fans want him to. Again, it's down to opinion, just because he doesn't share yours doesn't make him wrong.

The only performance I would describe as 'unacceptable' since the turn of the year is the first half at Swansea, which he called "pedestrian". Heck, I can't think of many performances I would deem as 'unacceptable' during this entire season. The results, yes, have been poor/unacceptable - but not the performances themselves.

Mate go by whom exactly? We are in a moment of time through circumstance where we have nobody making that decision. We basically have no active board. Going nowhere.

True...and as we seem to have to put our stance

degsy's stance; I would of sacked him 12mths ago...seriously, not just saying that.

Grave reservations when he was appointed and not seen a great deal to make me change my mind.

If anything, at times, it`s been worse than i feared.

Firmly in the "out" camp and have been for some time.

Wigan played nice football, their 'performances' were fine, unfortunately their results weren't.

It boils down to what encompasses a 'performance', is it just technical ability, nice passing, ball retention and possession, maybe the odd well created goal, or is it wether those displays lead to victories, points and a reflection of those performances.

We are treading into Moyes territory, knowing that the position of manager is one of the safest due to the inability or credibility of the board to make judgements, and that what is seen as acceptable differs from that of the supporters, especially those who pay their money, remember better times and all too well remember the worst of times. Signs that pointed to a brighter future 24 months ago have been replaced with concern, that is a good measurement of 'performance'.

Look, I want to like him, but the results are bad. I don't know how much of that we can blame him for because there have been
poor refereeing decisions, player errors and a fair serve of bad luck.

I'm often not happy with his selections and substitutions, but if he's sacked who do we bring in?

Some of the high profile managers aren't doing that well, are they? Mourinho's been sacked, Benitez's been sacked (I did say high profile)
Ancellotti's been sacked a few times and Van Gaal is grimly hanging on. So's Pellegrini.

There are no guarantees, but if things don't improve....

He another hokey cokey manager.
Changes not so much from game to game, but performance versus results.
I would love to win pretty, but more than that I would just loved to have won more than we have in any way possible.

My heart wants him to do well, my head says he won't.

I have been very open minded, but invariably sliding towards maybe a change.
Unless he wins the majority of the next 70 or 8 matches and ask me again!

I'd say our performances have shown enough to warrant giving Martinez until the end of the season to see if those performances are then reflected in the results.

For a combination of reasons, the least of which is that we are currently in the midst of a suggest takeover, and that there are no managers currently available that would present a guaranteed improvement on Martinez.

Stance: Out.

Change: Improved defensive record, I don't want to expect a goal everytime a team chucks it into the box. Top 7 and FA Cup.

I don't understand when people say 8th-17th and FA Cup. The league is the measure of where we're at and if we're finishing below 8th, some serious questions should be getting asked.

Asking for 7th+ isn't a sense of entitlement, we have a squad who over the past 10 years regularly finishes in that area, with a better team than we've had for the most part! Our current league position is massively under achieving.

Personally I think the quality of our performances has been somewhat overstated in the main. Yes there have been games like Swansea and Norwich away where we've come away thinking how did we not win that (although norwich was very much a 45 minute performance) but I think both Spurs games, city away and Watford at home have seen the opposition leave feeling they deserved more.

There have been draws with palace, liverpool, West Ham etc where the game was in the balance, and even some of the wins have left the opposition feeling hard done by (west brom, Newcastle). Hell, look at the comments on here after Sunderland game and see what people thought of that performance.

I honestly don't think we've deserved more than we've got from this season. Performances include attacking and defending, and should be judged over 90 minutes. I think some people have been too readily taken in by our ability to play great attacking stuff in spells and put it down as a good performance.

In answer to the OP, I don't think he's got what it takes, but if he shows genuine improvement by winning 7 or more of our remaining 15 games, and shows an ability to bring balance to the side and address obvious failings, I wouldn't be averse to him getting another year.
