Your stance on Martinez AND what would change it?

I'd take top 8 and no cup or cup and no lower than 17th. Both and I get 6 tattoos based on his image/name.
Cup alone and a bottom 10 finish would buy him time but the following season would have to show we're in the hunt for European football in the first half of the season. Would be over the moon with a cup

I'll admit that I never wanted him, never thought he was up to the job, he made me look a tit in his first season, now all the stats that have been banded about by myself and others prove that things aren't great at the moment.

To change my stance it will now take a massive swing in results, over the past 18 months (61 games) we have averaged 1.25 points per game, to hit 60 points we need 31 points from 15 games which is just a shade I've 2 points per game. If he can do that then I have to give him credit. Also if he wins the FA cup that would be fantastic.

Do you live your life by statistics Ian?

You're a tax inspector aren't you.

Honestly mate, if you won us the cup, I'd Bob round and do your dishes for 7 years, if Martinez wins the FA Cup then I'm buzzing.

Keep kidding yourself mate. Not only has there already been an improvement in comparison to Brenda's last days, I've been round long enough to know what is coming next with that lot. I can remember people laughing at Houilier and Benitez in their first year or so at the RS, but it didn't turn out quite so funny in the end. Klopp will put his mark on that team in the coming years, and it won't be pretty viewing.

I don't care what they do mate, I really don't.

Klopp's high-pressing game does not work consistently in this league - that has already been found out - as the pace of the game is so much quicker compared to the Bundesliga.

Anyway, this is threatening to go way off topic.

Back to Martinez, I believe you suggesting he 'isn't a proper manager' is slightly hyperbolic, considering he won the FA Cup with Wigan, and kept them up for three seasons while sticking to a style of play that many gave him credit for. He then managed us to a 5th placed finish, and in his second season, though poor domestically, got us further than any other British team in Europe last season in his first ever experience of a European competition.

Fair point mate. What were your targets for him? Or on the other hand what would make you give up on him?

The 'target' I set for any Everton manager would be to compete in games against all the teams in the league. Competing becomes a 'measure' of what can be achieved as you are always in with a chance of winning any game of football. As I say, the moment we are not competing against every team in the league, is the time I would call time on any Everton manager.

Martinez is in the process of building a squad that can take the field and not be overwhelmed. In the building process there will be many ups and downs, many negatives and positives as it is a process. It will take time before we have a squad that is capable of winning things, (notwithstanding that we can still win something this year) and finishing in the top 4, and I am prepared to give him that time.

Yeah fair do. It's been so long we need a trophy no matter what people say on here.
I just think my continued support relies on us competing for Europe in the league under him. We didn't last season and haven't so far this season (put on a winning run and that could change), don't think I could justify supporting him if we're still not competing for Europe.

He would have to win every remaining game by at least 3 goals for him to stay for me. Who knows where we could be now with a better manager. It shouldnt be about the end of the season or when we get new owners. the quicker he goes the quicker we can move on, and who knows we might just might get the right manager who can take this great team forward

3 things:

A) We are sitting on about £150m in Barkley, Lukaku and stones alone.. they'll be sold rather than watched to depart on a free.

B) Osman, Gibson, Pienaar about to depart.

C) the balance of our side is SHIIIIIIIT. Losing a couple of the players above ( anyone but RL, ideally) combined with releasing the lads would quickly free up £100m + tv cash.

Give it to unsworth to season close. Galloway, stones will learn bundles and the defensive wobbles will be a thing of the past.

= solid team + attractive opportunity for the ' top ' manager happy with no European football. Martinez has missed the opportunity of a life time with what he inherited. Arrogance.

As such my stance is Martinez OUT. Unsworth IN. FA Cup win not enough, just masks deficiencies, gambling away Moyes 11 year achievement.

I know it's your opinion, but Jesus H Christ....Unsworth!

Suppose we go all the way through and keep drawing weak teams. The cup would be great and all but would it answer any questions about RM?

It'd be silverware. Doesn't matter who you have to beat. It's a cup. Arsenal have had relatively easy runs in their cup wins the last two seasons. Doesn't take away from it at all.

So what you're saying is that you're willing to change your opinion on him then?

Oh, and for all this talk of a 'great team', it's not just down to the manager to win football games mate.
