Oops skipped a season there
Didn't mean for it to come across like that. Yep, they went down in his fourth season. The season they won the FA Cup, which I did reference.

Oops skipped a season there
The 'target' I set for any Everton manager would be to compete in games against all the teams in the league. Competing becomes a 'measure' of what can be achieved as you are always in with a chance of winning any game of football. As I say, the moment we are not competing against every team in the league, is the time I would call time on any Everton manager.
Martinez is in the process of building a squad that can take the field and not be overwhelmed. In the building process there will be many ups and downs, many negatives and positives as it is a process. It will take time before we have a squad that is capable of winning things, (notwithstanding that we can still win something this year) and finishing in the top 4, and I am prepared to give him that time.
Yeh, ok, if you say soMy post was leathered with sarcasm mate... was kind of the point
Oh I want to see them do badly mate, of course, but I try not to get too upset when they don't - it makes you bitter see...
And I beg to differ. We've had a top 5 finish. We've had an 11th placed finish. We're currently 12th, as close to top six as we are the relegation zone. In tha balance.
I know it's your opinion, but Jesus H Christ....Unsworth!
I'm genuinely interested to know people's current stance on the Martinez/Everton situation, I thought rather than do yet another poll (which even I can accept can be mainly reactionary and shouldn't be done in the heat of the moment) I would ask where you are at with Martinez? Whether it be totally fed up to thinking he is doing just fine. Then I'm interested to know what would change your mind? This works both ways and if you're 50/50 on him what would sway you either way?
This thread is not intended to [Poor language removed] Martinez off nor the 'plotters'
More a chance for us all as individuals to show we can be reasonable one way or the other.
think about it. If he's not good enough, why's he with our U21s?
Rooney, Rodwell, stones, Barkley. £100m.
Everyone knows youth is the future, if he's not good enough to be care taker for 15 games, where's his career going.
No one out there NOW catches the eye. Why not wait,,give him experience and stop the Martinez rot?
Firmly in the IN camp....you know my views on short-term ism in football and the need to use more youngsters. Roberto works with that in mind in my opinion. I think he has the ability to encourage young up-and-coming players to come to Everton as they know they'll get a real chance rather than be loaned out to some Dutch partner club or be sold to the Belgian Juliper league. He has a positive philosophy, evene if it doesn't always work.
In terms of what would make me change my mind.....tough one. Keeping Howard for another season, abandoning the recruitment of talented youngsters, not competing in games and being outed as a secret Liverpool fan.
Should have just waited for you to post mate. That's my position stated much more succinctly. For me he either needs to:
1) Win the FA Cup. Don't care how we win it. Just win it.
or
2) Have a very strong finish to the season, finish top 8 and show evidence of a shift in mentality e.g. learn how to close out games the ugly way. Then in the summer, bin off Howard at the first opportunity and get a solid keeper in (if Joel isn't the answer).
I need to see a more ruthless streak.
He's staying until the end of the season, that's near enough guaranteed, no way Kenwright will sack him.
No point in doing anything else as nothing will come of it.
So whatever your opinion is of him, support him for the rest of the season and then we can all reassess then.
