Your stance on Martinez AND what would change it?

The 'target' I set for any Everton manager would be to compete in games against all the teams in the league. Competing becomes a 'measure' of what can be achieved as you are always in with a chance of winning any game of football. As I say, the moment we are not competing against every team in the league, is the time I would call time on any Everton manager.

Martinez is in the process of building a squad that can take the field and not be overwhelmed. In the building process there will be many ups and downs, many negatives and positives as it is a process. It will take time before we have a squad that is capable of winning things, (notwithstanding that we can still win something this year) and finishing in the top 4, and I am prepared to give him that time.

Why? The odds of top 4 and or FA cup are remote. I do like the fact you believe in longevity creating results,,plenty of good examples for that. I think RM's bought, ok too so deserves respect for that. But he's wrecking decent young players now not getting close to the big guys.

Godda go, surely?

Firmly in the IN camp....you know my views on short-term ism in football and the need to use more youngsters. Roberto works with that in mind in my opinion. I think he has the ability to encourage young up-and-coming players to come to Everton as they know they'll get a real chance rather than be loaned out to some Dutch partner club or be sold to the Belgian Juliper league. He has a positive philosophy, evene if it doesn't always work.
In terms of what would make me change my mind.....tough one. Keeping Howard for another season, abandoning the recruitment of talented youngsters, not competing in games and being outed as a secret Liverpool fan.

Stance: Still in for me.

What would change my mind:

1) Failure to get Howard either out of this club during the summer and/or promote Joel and give him the chance to be a proper no. 1 keeper with Tim as the cup keeper clear no. 2 or buy in a real first class keeper; or

2) Failure to purchase or promote from existing purchases someone who can provide actual attacking ability as a credible second striker to Rom to give the big guy a break and cover for the inevitable injuries/loss of form; or

3). A genuine relegation battle and/or clear evidence of a mutiny from the players.

Oh I want to see them do badly mate, of course, but I try not to get too upset when they don't - it makes you bitter see...

And I beg to differ. We've had a top 5 finish. We've had an 11th placed finish. We're currently 12th, as close to top six as we are the relegation zone. In tha balance.

Personally, I think being as close to the relegation zone as you are to the top six at the turn of February is disgraceful with the squad that he has at his disposal, but I will concede that this season has yet to finish. But say the remainder of our season replicates our form over the past 18 months, and we have yet another bottom half finish, do you still think he is the best man for the job and worthy of being the 6th best paid manager in the Premier League?

I know it's your opinion, but Jesus H Christ....Unsworth!

think about it. If he's not good enough, why's he with our U21s?

Rooney, Rodwell, stones, Barkley. £100m.

Everyone knows youth is the future, if he's not good enough to be care taker for 15 games, where's his career going.

No one out there NOW catches the eye. Why not wait,,give him experience and stop the Martinez rot?

If he'd drop Howard and show that he can sort the defence out and get some results then all would be forgiven.

Think he's too stubborn to accept that he isn't doing things as well as he could though.

I'm genuinely interested to know people's current stance on the Martinez/Everton situation, I thought rather than do yet another poll (which even I can accept can be mainly reactionary and shouldn't be done in the heat of the moment) I would ask where you are at with Martinez? Whether it be totally fed up to thinking he is doing just fine. Then I'm interested to know what would change your mind? This works both ways and if you're 50/50 on him what would sway you either way?

This thread is not intended to [Poor language removed] Martinez off nor the 'plotters'

More a chance for us all as individuals to show we can be reasonable one way or the other.

Been more than reasonable with this fella for over 18 months. This is a lot more than you can say for his results over that time.
He''s proving week in, week out that we're wasting time with him. Tragic after doing similar with Moyes in his latter years.

What could change my mind? Nothing he could ever do. He hasnt got it in him

For me he either needs to:

1) Win the FA Cup. Don't care how we win it. Just win it.

or

2) Have a very strong finish to the season, finish top 8 and show evidence of a shift in mentality e.g. learn how to close out games the ugly way. Then in the summer, bin off Howard at the first opportunity and get a solid keeper in (if Joel isn't the answer).

I need to see a more ruthless streak.

If he can show consistent defensive improvement (more clean sheets; defending leads), performs well in the cup, and moves us up the league then I'd give him another season. Believe one more summer transfer will give us the team he wants. Sure that will mean offloading Howard, a lot of deadwood, and likely losing Stones. If we end lower than last season, he's got to go. Understand folks are going to be incredulous, but I actually buy that we are still in transition. Martinez has bought some great players, brought on great players. We play scintillating football going forward. We are an absolute embarrassment defending. Fix that (and I am not confident Martinez can) and we have one of the best teams in the league. This is why we are getting such negative attention: we have a squad that scores for fun, one of the top scorers in the league and we're 12th. It is not because we are drab and can't create chances. I am patient because we occasionally play the best football I have ever seen Everton play. But great football is great football for 90 minutes. I need to see us do that 7-9 games on the trot.

What have Rooney, Rodwell, Stones and Barkley got to do with Unsworth? Stones didn't come through our academy, we bought him. Caretaker is the perfect job for a footballer who's trademark 'pass' was a 50 yard punt into the stands. There's a mop and bucket waiting for him at Finch Farm.

There's no ' admire' button or that's what if have used. Like? No, it looks like I agree. Look how Moyes got us up the table, look how Martinez is getting us down. Moyes gave plenty of youngsters a throw. Martinez is a pyar gambler,,and losing hand over fist.

Should have just waited for you to post mate. That's my position stated much more succinctly.

He's staying until the end of the season, that's near enough guaranteed, no way Kenwright will sack him.

No point in doing anything else as nothing will come of it.

So whatever your opinion is of him, support him for the rest of the season and then we can all reassess then.

Alternatively: make your feelings known and speed up the whole sorry process
