Your stance on Martinez AND what would change it?

I don't care what they do mate, I really don't.

Klopp's high-pressing game does not work consistently in this league - that has already been found out - as the pace of the game is so much quicker compared to the Bundesliga.

Anyway, this is threatening to go way off topic.

Back to Martinez, I believe you suggesting he 'isn't a proper manager' is slightly hyperbolic, considering he won the FA Cup with Wigan, and kept them up for three seasons while sticking to a style of play that many gave him credit for. He then managed us to a 5th placed finish, and in his second season, though poor domestically, got us further than any other British team in Europe last season in his first ever experience of a European competition.

I wish I could be like you then, because I absolutely hate seeing them prosper, and I want us to actually compete with them rather than getting bummed into oblivion every time that we try to. Martinez is taking us nowhere other than the bottom half of the league.

The 'target' I set for any Everton manager would be to compete in games against all the teams in the league. Competing becomes a 'measure' of what can be achieved as you are always in with a chance of winning any game of football. As I say, the moment we are not competing against every team in the league, is the time I would call time on any Everton manager.

Martinez is in the process of building a squad that can take the field and not be overwhelmed. In the building process there will be many ups and downs, many negatives and positives as it is a process. It will take time before we have a squad that is capable of winning things, (notwithstanding that we can still win something this year) and finishing in the top 4, and I am prepared to give him that time.
Ok mate. I just hope you're right.

Arsenal have had relatively easy runs in their cup wins the last two seasons. Doesn't take away from it at all.

Wigan's was pretty easy the year before that. Only beat us, City, Millwall, Huddersfield, 3rd division Bournemouth and a non-league side to get there. That was enough to hire RM in the first place.

So what you're saying is that you're willing to change your opinion on him then?

Oh, and for all this talk of a 'great team', it's not just down to the manager to win football games mate.

Oh dear....what do you think the chances of us winning every game by at least 3 games

Oh I want to see them do badly mate, of course, but I try not to get too upset when they don't - it makes you bitter see...

And I beg to differ. We've had a top 5 finish. We've had an 11th placed finish. We're currently 12th, as close to top six as we are the relegation zone. In tha balance.

Oops skipped a season there

Not sure when we replaced Moyes we had the opportunity of appointing a proven winner with a track record of bringing through youth who can also work within tight financial restraints.

We chose Martinez & he ticked a number of boxes however he really needs to prove that he has the ability to improve & grow as a manager as currently I'm not seeing it . I'm not sure he will ever change.

We have no coherent effective strategy for our play when we don't have the ball allowing lukaku & Barkley to let opposition players run past them has to stop we need every single player working hard to recover possession & get back into shape as fast as possible.

I want Robles besic & mori all to become first choice when fit for the remainder of the season a rally in the league between now & the end of the season something along the lines of Leicester last year that we can then look to carry into next season & an fa cup final.

He then gets to keep his job Howard out in the summer Barry & jagiekla phased out squad players not starters.

Out at the moment. Would love it to be working with him but it isn't. He has assembled a good squad of talented players but there isn't too much recent evidence that he can fashion them into an effective team.

Would change my position if he can demonstrate that he can arrest the teams current slide, stops sugar coating everything in interviews, and isn't afraid to drop under performing players. Thereafter the test would be pushing for Europe next season.

Regardless of when he eventually goes let's hope the next manager is selected on merit and not because the media fawn over him.

Btw, my stance is thus;

The best teams can play 2,3 or 4 ways and still win. There is no one effective style.

Also, good teams offer balance, not all out attack or defence. There is no shame in doing both properly within the ebb and flow of a game.

Last, really good managers are brave. They admit mistakes quickly and rectify them. They put their ego to one side with players, formations, training and everything else.

His first season he did all of the above. I honestly though he was the bollocks. He's lost something since then. If it didn't come back by the end of the season I'll be happy for him to go.

Only 'David Moyes' defensive masters' at Goodison and the league champions at Wembley. Easy mate ;)

Fact remains, a key factor in winning a cup is a favourable run...

I'm in the Martinez out camp and have been for quite a while now. It's a shame because I can roll off numerous things that I actually think he's superb at, certainly a lot better than I imagined he would when he came here.

But for every positive I can mention, there's numerous glaring problems that haven't been rectified and in all seriousness there are no signs that they ever will such as -

Goalkeeper
Standing off with no pressure
Over use of the same players and poor squad rotation
Set pieces attacking and defence

For me the players have also let him down since halfway through last season and I get the impression they think he's a soft touch so there's no repercussions in poor form as we can all usually pick his side game after game.

I've mentioned time and time again about his press conferences and how ridiculous the majority of them are. It's not like I want to cringe but he makes it impossible not to.

I just can't see any change tbh, he's not going to change his philosophy because he 100% believes it's the right way to play. People say it's like his philosophy is based on Barcelona but it's not because without the ball they chase and hassle whilst most of the time we make it look like it's a Sunday league game, no urgency or desire to win the ball back.
