Well said - anyone can miss a peno - the one he did looks worse but timmy cahill twatted one into row z in a cup semi-final - it happens.

Overall he’s coming on well - dyche is doing a good job with him.
Undoubtedly this for me. I think he'll get more stick because he was trying to be clever and it's blown up in his face. However that style hasn't just come out of nowhere, this is probably how he chooses to take pens on the training ground and it probably works most of the time. Training ground or even just in a normal match is very different to 5th pen in the shootout though.

For me garner or tarks should have had the 5th as I think their style of penalty is less likely to be affected by nerves.

One of our best players. I see he's getting the usual abuse.

The best comments typically, "lets sell". Of course for an enormous profit because he's 'terrible'.

I cant tell if they're a special type of dumb or something less savoury.

Enjoy being alone at Christmas...rats.
Was a terrible penalty, was it not?
Also, could run more with the ball instead of the early release.
Back to penalty , no way in training Dyche has seen him pass the ball to keeper and go yep, you will do for me!.

If he comes out and issues a public apology to both the fans and his team mates it'll go a long way to redeeming himself.

Unfortunately I imagine if he's of a similiar ilk to Big Rom / Mirallas he'll have already gotten over it this morning and wont be bothered as he knows he'll win shiny things in 12-24 months at a top 6 club. Meanwhile us long suffering fans and players like Coleman and Pickford continue hurting with no success.

This view is incredibly entitled. He doesn't need to apologise publicly for taking a risk with a penalty and it not working out. He did what he thought was best. It's a mistake, we should just move on.

Come off it. Stop conflating. Wanting to win a game to be 2 legs from a cup final is not a cavalier attitude.

No one is saying staying up isn't the priority. Stop making out like 3 more games over the course of 2 months would ruin us.
Look at how many injuries we picked up in the last few games:

Coleman
Young
Doucoure
Mykolenko

We play 2 times in the next 12 days. If we'd got a LC SF tilde have been 5 games in 16 days. Injuries would have piled up.

This team needs the 10 day break its now got after the new year between the 4th and 14th of January to recharge its batteries and get bodies back.

Pretty sure he's already apologised to his teammates.

I could care less if he apologises to the fans or not.

Learn from it and move on.

The issue is chaps we've been saying this for the past 28 years now.

When does the playing staff and fanbase develop standards befitting the stature of the football club ?

Mistakes happen (Distin back pass) and players miss pens but yesterday wasn't a standard mistake or miss it was just sheer arrogance/ over confidence by Amadou who lets be honest will see this club as a stepping stone to bigger and better days ahead elsewhere.

I would rather an example be made and the boy have a bruised ego than brush it off as "one of those tings" which reinforces the narrative of this club having no desire or ability to achieve anything of real note.

Your a big baby

Big part of a team that has only lost 3 of the last 14 games during the course of '90' minutes open play.

He was born 6 months before David Moyes became our manager. He didn't even join a professional club until mid 2020, and that was a second tier German club.

He's gonna make mistakes. Idrissa Gueye has been a pro footballer for how long? He couldn't even hit the target from 12 yards. It happens.

Need to let it go now. Emotions were high last night, but I'm sure he's gutted too. In his mind, he will have placed that shot a miillimetre inside of the post. Yes, the 'run up' was all wrong, but at the end of the day, he just hit it wrong, and got it too close to the keeper.

Not that deep.

Was it stupid? Yes

Should he have blasted it? Yes

But it's just one of them, terrible penalty it's cup football, just have to wipe your mouth

I didn't see the match, just the replays of the penalties. But that CAN'T be the highest success pen. It was just so so slow, theres no way a keeper doesn't save that if he dives the right way.

Penalties should almost always just be blasted. Pace beats reactions 9/10 times.
You obviously never saw Cantona take a pen. He scored two like Onana's in the cup final. I think the accusations of arrogance etc. are off the mark. The easy thing to do is blast it when under pressure. Waiting for the keeper to move is a solid option, he just didn't execute.
