Papa Shango
Player Valuation: £70m
I think you are giving my footballing ability far too much praise there...He can pass a ball backwards and sideways but me and you can do that. He's not a talented passer of the ball.

They do, and most good players look way worse when they have no options at all.
And most players aren't 19-20 when they start receiving the same criticism he has - this is why we will never have prospects too. You give them time to develop, to make mistakes, to learn. 21 year old full international starter playing well in the last 16 of the Euros for his country - "I don't know what he offers, he's a nothing player, doesn't do enough, SELL". Okay then.
Fair enough. I know I could. I'd put Onana's passing ability in the same category as Tom Davies, Bang average.I think you are giving my footballing ability far too much praise there...
Yeah but we blast the same criticism at any young player - notably of late John Stones, etc.If you're wanting to play for the best teams, you'll get heavy criticism no matter what age.
I don't think anyone is forcing him out here. I'm sure Dyche would want to keep him. The question is "has he done enough to warrant a big team move". Not entirely. Yet the impression is he's already set his eyes on bigger things rather than being successful at his current club.
Think some people blame systems etc for not getting the best out of young players. But the other side is you'd think a younger player would adapt to a system better if the system works IF he's talented enough.
I keep using Declan Rice as an example of how the two are similar and how advanced Rice was at the same age. Adapted his game from a CB, DM, to box to box or number 8.
There's benchmarks for any player IMO. And for Everton, Onana hasn't hit that.
Take him out of our team and is he missed I’d say no he’s not. When you pay £30 odd million for a player you expect a bit more than if they’d come through the academy and if you’re good enough you’re old enough regardless of age. I do get players are going to improve with age, also some peak early some late, as seen in a better side he improves as would most but 2 years in our mess of a side he’s hardly been a stand out performer and with this “high ceiling” I keep hearing I’d expect more regardless of age. Fancies himself as a top player I don’t think he will ever be that, if we can make some profit on him I’d be happy with that as he won’t ever suit our current set up.They do, and most good players look way worse when they have no options at all.

Jeez when did Stones pass away? I know he hasn't been at his best for England but that's a shock.Yeah but we blast the same criticism at any young player - notably of late John Stones, etc.
We're not forcing him out, we just don't want him here as, uh, his... application isn't great? And he's not Paul Scholes. Solid.
It only took Rice about 200 games for WHAM to adapt his game and he became noticeably better in his last year there so fair enough - he's currently doing the EXACT same thing Onana does but for England and being lauded as doing something great and being irreplaceable But also players benchmarks are pointless as they vary from player to player - my benchmark then is Messi's inhuman progress from 16 and being a first team player instantly, why isn't anyone reaching that benchmark? Or in fact - Ronaldo looked like a selfish skinny player who might be a decent winger early on, but woah, time and effort invested in him paid back quite a bit (to go with his inhuman discipline when he went to United); still took him about 3 years to find his feet in a team that constantly won the title, mind.
Onana has done well with what little we have and needs a fluid team to pass to - same as any decent player; same as Gana - he looks utterly and completely lost when there's no movement around him and either passes back or instantly loses the ball. Same as Garner, same as any midfielder - same as our entire team screaming out for an attacking mid that drops deep instead of requiring hoofs, but that's a whole different point.
He'll do well in a better team and coach and I hope for his sake he gets exactly that - even if he hilariously stays at this level there's a need for the kind of player and he'll defo make a career out of it.
E: He also started the moves with great passes for some of Lukaku's plethora of disallowed goals. Stealing the ball and playing it forward perfectly, but that's not good enough as he doesn't dance through the entire team and slot.
Pretty much bang on with this assessmentOnana is as good as gone. Effectively he is our transfer kitty this summer.
He may go on to become a decent player but won't be missed by us.
That's probably why the links to Kalvin Philips persist.I think he'll move on deadline day personally.
Maybe he'll stay but being benched in the crucial week and seeing the replacements beat all of Forest, RS and Brentford without conceding a goal doesn't really bode well.
Need to get another CM in and then he's expendable.
How'd you get that out of my post ffs - meant the fanbase instantly jumped on him for fannying about with the ball or whatever, despite the fact he was an almost excellent/faultless defender as well. For no reason we set some unreal expectations and even if a player has talent - he's not what's needed as he doesn't have some non-tangible "it factor" or doesn't apply himself well or something daft.Jeez when did Stones pass away?
