One of those deals that are good for all parties. We make a decent profit on a player who doesnt make a big difference to the team and who looks like the manager doesnt fancy. Plus a sell on clause.

Villa get a excellent young prospect with PL/international experience for a good fee and in the right environment, will become a top player worth a lot more.

Onana gets to play in the CL with a team on the up to showcase himself to the bigger teams.

Yes but you’re painting us as a team that can’t pass a ball and can only hoof. You must be able to see the difference between what Dyche is doing and what Allardyce/Pulis etc. do. Hoof ball is launching it long then using that time get 9 mean in formation behind a ball and hope that two striker can flick it on. We play a counter pressing game relying on winning it back high up the pitch which is where the combination play then occurs.
Not seen much of that if I'm honest mate.

A few thoughts:

Fee: £50mil is incredibly poor when an inferior Belgian player 'Lavia' went for £58mil last summer. Also, Caicedo was £115mil last summer.

Not sure why people dont know how much we signed him for, £33mil + 20% of profit to Lille.

Everton £46.6mil
Lille: £3.4mil

His book value will be around £19.8mil so its approx £26.8mil pure PSR profit + his wages.

Some posters are commenting that he wasn't very good at the euros. However, i heard a little birdie tell me that L'equipe had him in their team of the group stage. His ratings were also usually 2nd to only De Bruyne.

Other posts complain about a defensive midfielder not scoring many goals. Dont remember too many saying this about Busquets or Makelele.

Some saying he didnt play end of the season yet he bossed both Sheffield United and Arsenal in the final two games.

Villa: Monchi & Emery breaking the Villa transfer record to play him in his natural 6 anchor position which we have done maximum 4 times.

Iroegbunam replaces him in the squad. A year older than Onana was when he joined. Perhaps also Doucoure moves deeper like under Ancelotti. Big pressure on Iroegbunam to prove that he wasnt solely a PSR signing.

On paper he and the Chelsea player on loan (with a view to buy?) could be forward thinking, until you see this: https://www.transfermarkt.com/lesley-ugochukwu/verletzungen/spieler/711999

Hopefully the fee includes installments to at least take this over £60mil. So far it looks to be appalling business.

Next surely must be DCL, Maupay, Keane and Holgate.

So your basing his ability on one poor header then?

If you want to go off statistics:

Ratings,

V Slovakia: 7.4 second highest for Belgium

V Romania: 6.9

V Ukraine: 7.6 3rd highest on the pitch

V france: 7.1 highest rating for Belgium.

Also was in team of the group stages.

Hes played very well in the internationals and usually does. In his last 12 international apps hes only had 3 apps that dropped below 7.0

Precisely.

It’s really not as different as you want it to be I’m afraid

Like most things the truth has turned out to be somewhere in between with the lad. Some on here think he should be at Real Madrid, others think Luton town. He’s ended up at Villa, a club functioning well at the moment but not exactly the profile he was after in some of his interviews pre-euros. No drama really. Pretty unremarkable spell ended by a tidy profit. Job well done by Thelwell

Barkley-Onana would have kept them up.
