Are we a one man team?

If one player is in exceptional goalscoring form, as Lukaku is, then it's not unusual for his share of his team's goals to be higher than other players - exceptional things tend to be exceptional and as such can cause statistical anomalies. The combined percentages can't hit higher than 100% and one player's unusually high scoring rate will inevitably lower his teammates percentages, that's just how percentages work.

As such I'm not sure what you're trying to prove here. Are you saying that if Lukaku missed a few chances and knocked a few passes astray we'd somehow be a better team?

The fact that Koeman has found a better way of utilising the teams main striker than Martinez could and is more willing to adapt his tactics in accordance with what's available to him and the opposition seems to upset you.

We would be in a lot healthier state looking toward a non-Lukaku future if the scoring and key creation of the 51 goals we've scored this season were spread around more evenly, that's for sure. As it is we are left with an incredible imbalance should he leave.

No other top end PL club is over-exposed to one player than we are.

Don't think we are going to start every game next season with ten men, won't be easy to replace but I'm confident of a 15+ man.

Who cares? We are challenging for 5th and building a really good team. Get a class goalie, cb and winger and striker to play off Rom and we are flying.

We must keep Rom though. He is vital to us continuing to strengthen. If he goes we will need to rebuild again and must buy like for like.

I wouldn't agree that the best way forward is to make your planning on the basis that your top scorer is inevitably going to leave. And for all we know there may be plans aplenty for such a circumstance.

I'd also argue that simple goals scored / assists don't always tell the full story. The assist could be a clearance hitting someone's backside and then falling nicely for the goalscorer or it could be a shocking backpass. The most important part of a goal could be the pass before the assist or good pressing and a tackle that suddenly switches advantage - Football doesn't necessarily follow the "Moneyball" style analysis.

Indeed.

Some good examples of this.

Stones kicks for touch but the ball hits off Seamus and goes straight to little Lookman.

Seamus gets an assist for Gana's goal versus Sunderland but the goal was made possible by Tom Davies's superb crossfield pass which put Seamus clear.

Davies again with the pass to Ross which set up Rom for the first against City.

etcera, etcetera ;)

It's very important that we add goals in other areas of the team. I have heard some people say (not on here) that if other players start scoring it will take away from Lukaku. This is silly for me, because we're hoping to ADD goals to the team, not keep at where we're at. Tottenham are a good example, Kane the big scorer, with Alli (double figures), Son (almost double figure) and Eriksen (five goals) chipping in behind. Also Chelsea with Costa as the big scorer and Hazard (double figures), Pedro (almost double figure) and Willian (five goals) in behind.

We on the other hand have a big scorer in Lukaku, but our next best is Barkley, Mirallas and Coleman (very strong player) on four each. So for me, it's important that we find that other double figure player. I look at our squad but I cannot see that player there. This is a very important area for us to look at in the summer.

I made this post in a different topic some days ago. I think our big problem is not having that player between Lukaku and Barkley/Mirallas/Coleman, but especially the attacking players. If we could find this player to score double figures, this would be healthy for us. It might not be a big difference for us this time with getting Champions League, but maybe with this type of player we would be some points ahead of Man U and Arsenal. They of course have two games in hand, but if we had these points on the board, it would be good, because there's no guarantee that Man U and Arsenal will win both games in hand.

Well if Schneids is missing in our next match we'll be up against it - Lukaku or no Lukaku.

So I'd say No we are not a one-man team.

Have to say this is the best thread i have seen on here in a while, haven't laughed so much in ages. All i can say is keep up the good comedy scripts @davek .
You wont be laughing next season when he's banging 20 odd in for Chelsea and we have an attack of Enner Valencia and Calvert-Lewin.
