My first reaction is neither -
Arteta has potential , but unproven as a manager , bit like a Clement who is a great coach but battles to manage a team , IMO Silva is a concern , defensively , has great starts which go into free fall , questionable loyalty

However whichever way we go there is going to be a risk factor , I just hope Brands is in charge of this appointment - has hit the ground running and advocating the criteria for the new manager , also we do not go into panic mode as "the cries get louder why no manager after 2 weeks ditto Big Sam " I believe we must not rush this - we broaden our horizons not just what is being touted in the media and or betting agencies

Who would you pick Bry?

For the record, its neither for me as well.

Philly C in case you care.
Just witnessed s some of the worst footy I’ve ever seen in my life, let’s choose a manager whose never managed before cos Everton.

Neither in my opinion, break balls and offer Conte it, we have ‘missed out’ on Tuchel, Emery and will be hiring super relegation material. Conte probably wants to go back to italy.

I have no idea who the better manager is in all honesty so i'll abstain from voting.

I find the idea that appointing someone without experience is lunacy to be pretty ridiculous though, and to be honest it just shows a lack of vision and understanding on the part of many. Everyone has to start somewhere, and the fact is there's very little similarity between managing Rotherham/Albacete/Ingolstadt etc and managing Everton, so just having been a manager somewhere doesn't really make you any better equipped than somebody who's been coaching at the top level.

Part of my job involves headhunting. It's a different industry obviously, but I hope that the Everton hierarchy are following the same principles I would in my role; looking for people with a specific skillset and who can demonstrate both good ideas and practical ways of implementing them. If we can identify candidates who are well suited to the job at hand, I have no interest in whether they have 20 years of managerial experience or none.

Who would you choose outside of them two?

How typical is it that we’ve had a vacancy longer than arsenal and yet they’ve filled it quicker than us and with a coach who’s won 3 Europa titles back to back.

Meanwhile we try to pick up hull and watfords manager.

Nothing will be the same apparently.
Spot on!!! Why would he go to Arsenal over us?

Our ineptitude is staggering.

Who would you choose outside of them two?
It's difficult to give a name really because a) I don't know who would realistically be interested in coming, and b) I don't take enough notice of European/World football to know who the next big thing is.

I would be looking for someone who can demonstrate an ability to make players better under their coaching, and who has a clearly defined 'philosophy' for want of a better word, in terms of style of play and the type of players they will use. Because of the fairly unique circumstances we're in at the moment, I would also be looking for a relatively young manager with the sort of personality that fans will unite behind.

I get why some are a little disappointed with the mooted appointments but I have to say I think people are way behind the curve if they're only just realising where we're pitching things. I was disappointed with the appointment of Koeman because at the time there was talk of genuine big hitters like Mourinho, Simeone, and the Emery/Monchi partnership. It's been clear for 2 years though that we're not fishing in the pond we were initially led to believe.Anyone who thought an owner who had appointed Koeman and Allardyce was going to bring in an absolutely top drawer manager next was either kidding themselves or a little slow on the uptake.

Isn’t this an irrelevant question?

Seems that he gave the Arsenal board doubts due to his reluctance to not have complete control. Now we have Brands in place - there seems little point in going for manager that isn’t happy to be a head coach.

Yep if the talk is right that he wanted total control and not work with DoF means with Brands in place he was never going to work.

Silva all day long for me. Loved Arteta as a player but lets be honest, he has very little experience managing a premier league team, well none at all actually. It would be a massive risk and would be more about being sentimental than sensible. Let him learn his craft and gain experience somewhere else first. Silva is a risk too of course but he is a 'Manager' who is young and ambitious and even though his stints at Hull and Watford dont get you that excited, he did really well before that and has won a Cup and a League and with impressive win rates at 2 different clubs. Still remains to be seen if he can do it in the premier league but has a much better chance of doing it with Everton and Brands so will get behind him and lets see what happens.
