AUSTRIA VIENNA Vs EVERTON 14th JULY 2013 KO 16:00 GMT

2-1 to the fit to start a season Austrian champions on their ground and with a very understrength team out for the most part.

Didn't see any of the streams but Robles sounds like a very decent acquisition.

Robles was good, Dave. Very commanding at times, passing out was decent in the main with a couple of loose ones.

Not much penetration from us going forward and A LOT of keep-ball at the back; clearly from Martinez' instructions. I can see why he did that; to get the players used to playing possession football, but I think we'll see more cutting edge when the games get quicker.

He made some really good saves today, his only fault was he didn't move for their penalty, other than that he impressed me.

That's because Duffy isn't very good mate. Well not good enough for a top 6 side anyway!

I've never seen him perform well; slow as a carthorse and rash, all he has is height. The only reason people think he has something about him is because he's an academy product and so everybody wants him to come good but wanting him to come good doesn't automatically make it happen, i'm afraid.

By what people are saying, Tim Howard has finally got some decent competition. First time in six years.

Definitely. He's a big presence in there and looks good at one on ones. Will either dislodge Howard next season or seriously keep him on his toes?!!.

Did Duffy find his feet second half? (if he stayed on that is)

To be fair, he was a lot better second half, but still wasn't great. Looks very slow off the mark and some his passing was quite poor. However, there was more focus on the CB's seeing as they had the most of the ball. Plus, you can put a lot of it down to pre-season lack of sharpness.

It was just down to them playing crap. I very much doubt the defensive mindset has changed in one game.

We are always rubbish when not firing 100%.

I thought Browning played well. Didnt look out of place anyway.

I thought he looked atrocious today, numerous misplaced passes. I would just put it down to nerves for now

Thanks mate. Sounds like an encouraging start.

I said when he arrived that Martinez will need the best part of a season to get his signature on this team. We could do without all the doomsday merchants and Moyes FC fans to keep quiet and let the man find his feet.

There's going to be many bumpps in the road and the knee jerkers voices will be loud and prolonged.

It was good to see the defenders play from the back, how many times did give the ball back to the other team by hoofing it.

Definitely mate, once we get everyone back and fit and we've played more games, the sharpness will come through and im sure are attacks will be more quicker and precise. It was the first game, its still very early days!.

I'm afraid I have to agree. Browning looked extremely poor. But like you say, nerves must've played a part, coupled with pre season sloppiness.

A lot better 2nd half (playing on the right hand side that half), got a hospital pass from Robles and skillfully extricated us, got caught out badly again once, but miles better.

I think he's way behind where he should be, tbh. That's down to Moyes not playing him in the right games when he could have.

Jury's out on him though.

I do not think we should pass at the back for the sake of it. Jags made a mistake today. There will be more if this goes on. Hoof it when it is necessary.
