The only thing I took from watching this is how unfit and off their timing players are this early in pre season.

Also, Junior looks to have put on a bit of muscle and played some crisp passes. Maybe we have a player there.

Rubbish game, more passion playing "3 and in" with the son in laws on the park but trying out youth and squad players is vital.

Find out in these games who can play and who can't rather than kid ourselves any longer about lads taking wages who can't make it.

Not at all concerned about results in friendlies they are a means to an end.

Didn't see the second half and based on the rest of the thread, I'm glad.

I hope the defenders get used to passing it out from the back. I think it's best if we just get Gibson to drop back there like he was doing under Moyes, to pick the ball up and start attacks so we don't have to hoof it much or try risky passes. Not sure about Jags or Distin playing that way though. They've both had their calamities in the past as well as today.

The only thing I didn't really like about tika taka is that you have to have class players for it to be really effective, imo (if that's what we're going to do). You knew the sh*te weren't going anywhere trying it last season as they only had the likes of Joe Allen in midfield and didn't have the quality to be really successful with it. In recent years I've thought the same about Arsenal. In a physical league like the EPL, I hope we have the players with the technical ability to make it work, otherwise it could be frustrating.

At least we've finally lost the utterly ignorant tag of being a "hoofball" team now Martinez is here. Let's hope it brings results.

read an article, cant remember now and Martinez a bit different from Rodgers tika taka, where Rodgers is all about keeping the ball and having patient where Martinez likes to play from the back with quick short passing, so we need players who have a quick brain who can pass as quickly to find space.

Made every clearance with his right then towards the end forced to use his left and looked similar to you trying to board a small boat.

Good post mate. It's going to require an awful lot of patience and understanding from supporters initially to give the system a chance (which is ironic from the 'school of science'). I like the idea of keeping hold of the ball more than we have in recent years (seems like decades since we played it to feet from the back and controlled games). It's a breath of fresh air...even the trying of it is preferable to some of the muck served up in the past masquerading as football.

Match report. http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/austria-vienna-2-everton-fc-5100011

Has the manager commented anywhere yet? I'd like to hear what his thoughts are.

I'll have go.

'Well it was a phenomenal effort from the players is the circumstances.

Vienna are just about to start their season so are way ahead of us in terms of match readiness. I thought it was a phenomenal effort.

Every player had a good game. They were phenomenal'

I imagine something like that.

KNOW WHAT WOULD BE BOSS LADS? IF WE COULD WRITE OFF A YOUNG PLAYER AFTER THE 1ST GAME OF PRE SEASON PLAYING A COMPLETELY NEW STYLE OF FOOTBALL

BE DEAD SOUND THAT
