yes the youngsters need time on the park to build confidence and get used to playing with the seniors -
my guess is that all those juniors played better today than what Phil Neville gave us last season -
so let us be patient and give every youngster the same opportunities Naismith had last season -
some are going to make it and some not but we will only learn which will by playing them enough -
all part of the building process - better than just clinging to a playing squad of 13 or 14

Its great to know that we will have 11 players this season and not 10 players, don't get me wrong Neville was a good player at first but he was Moyes weakness in the end.

Good post mate. It's going to require an awful lot of patience and understanding from supporters initially to give the system a chance (which is ironic from the 'school of science'). I like the idea of keeping hold of the ball more than we have in recent years (seems like decades since we played it to feet from the back and controlled games). It's a breath of fresh air...even the trying of it is preferable to some of the muck served up in the past masquerading as football.

I think, by and large, most blues will give the new management time to settle. I agree, I'm really looking forward to seeing us try this new style. We've got some great footballers and I think it'll suit the likes of Pienaar, Baines, Gibson and Mirallas right down to the ground. I think Kone's a very tidy footballer too, which'll help. No more attacks breaking down with Victor mis-controlling or Jelavic falling over the ball. I just hope it clicks early as I don't know if we can afford to fall behind here.

I'm not taking too much from today, result didn't matter, fitness did. It could've been 4-1 easily. Robles was good in the one on one chances, well done. I don't think we created many chances and looked a bit lost up front. Gibson played well, never wasted a ball. Oviedo had a good second half. Defensively, was a bit meh. Wasn't solid and a few misplaced passes but it's pre season and we've got more games to go. If anyone wants me I'll be in the Accrington Stanley thread talking to myself until someone joins me.

Garbage.

He played four games for us when we had a bit of an injury crises at teh back, all four he was solid and looked comfortable. He's also miles ahead of any academy product thats been in the u21's. Bad game today, but one bad game does not make a player, especially after said player has played a few first team games and looked more then comfortable.

I've seen him quite a few times for the u21's and what can I say, I just don't see a premier league CB in the making. Has to go on loan, at the very least, very soon.

I've also seen many, everytime looks head and shoulders above the rest. I do agree he needs to go out on loan and get some gametime though. I dont think you can definitively say anything on his future based on u21's as the competitiveness isn't there.

Sending him on loan to Wigan or something like that would be ideal.

read this article from an Wigan fanCan nice guys win in football? The jury’s out on that one. I have been convinced for a long time that Roberto Martinez will one day become one of the top managers in Europe but now? Right now? Taking one of the biggest jobs in the game? Let me attempt to take my Bobby-love blinkers off and give you an honest assessment.
On the pitch he has faced fierce criticism ever since he encouraged Titus Bramble and Gary Caldwell to pass it around at the back in his first home pre season friendly and gift the ball to St Mirren’s centre forward. In a Northern working class town this fancy dan tika taka and one up front isn’t always going to go down well. Too many games we were a defensive shambles and punchless up front. Pass, pass, pass, give the ball away, concede, repeat but Roberto persevered and persevered with the meagre resources available at his disposal and when it did come off, it was truly beautiful. My thoughts are that it was pretty dire, but then it was two almost randomly mixed sets of old/new Everton teams each half, in the first pre season, of the first season of a new manager so what else could it of been really?
Junior stood out for me amongst the youngsters, thought he had a good game.

We dont know that because we never consistently tried it under Moyes.

I'd say it sorts of defeats the purpose of bringing in a new manager if all people want is the old managers tactic of playing the ball long when a defender came in for a bit of pressure. I think we should EXPECT any player of this football club to play their way out of that situation and only get rid up field when the odds are overwhelming against it.

I think the issue is if they are being told that even then they need to short pass it.

That cant be right. No manager is going to want a defender to keep hold of the ball in a situation where they're outnumbered and squeezed in terms of space.
