Back to a David Moyes team

I really cannot believe the negative mindset of the opening post.
We are now steadily transforming ourselves from a bit of a joke (albeit still a proud club), into a properly run machine that should be competitive.
These are exciting times in my view and certain people should consider giving their heads a wobble.
If Ron gets in Sig, a quality striker and a left sided defender, then happy days are ahead.
We have all been through the dark days, and the club letting us down in the transfer windows, but for gods sake smell the roses.

Sooner have a team ,than a clutch of stars that have bottled it every time they got anywhere near getting this club a trophy or gave the likes of the top teams a game.
This club has been to easily pleased for decades , we need winners not dreamers or bluff merchant s.
Stones well , still doing daft things that can't be passed off as he is still learning.
Del , well if you want a star that plays for 50 minutes every 6 games there's your man.
Barkley well ,who knows isn't taking the next step., and still picks the wrong pass as much as the right pass.
Rom , yes a star , but we were set up to play to him , and to easy to counter when he wasn't in the mood, only one I would have kept, suspect if he has two good years at unt he will start his games again to get a move.
We need to get a decent core together then add to it , looks like that's what the manager is doing.

We had at least one world class player when we won titles, Nev, Ball, Young/Vernon. We don't have any now, but I feel far more confident with our current team and manager (who initially I wasn't in favour of) than I have for years. Our 80's champions knew how to put in a bit of effort, Barkley would not have got into that side, and for me that's the only way to judge a player...... who would have got into our 80's or 60's team......

I forgot the season had kicked off already.

I was hoping to make a broad non evidenced judgement before a ball was kicked.

Another 'I told you so' post coming up in due course...

Seems like we do that every year Neiler.

Stones overhyped during Martinez era, not good enough
Deulofeu overhyped during Martinez era, not good enough
Barkley overhyped during Martinez era, not good enough

Lukaku the only one I'll really miss.

Are you happy with the replacements weve got for the money brought in and do you consider them to be 'star' quality?

Let's just run through this a second.

A defender who couldn't defend.
Someone with less lung power than an asthmatic ant.
An attacker who for the majority of the game gave away possession as the ball ricocheted off his shin's.
And a midfielder who if you looked up the word inconsistent would have his face in the dictionary entry. (& unfortunately under bottler too)

They were all great prospects no doubt and in part they have done their bit for Everton, either with goals in Rom's case or money from transfer fees with the rest. It is sad they didn't stay longer but they all thought that Everton were below them (perhaps not Del but I would guess if he took off he would have gone back to Barca anyhow) so they had to go.

Let's hope in the near future we will get some more of these, but they will actually be the world class finished articles.

We wont get the world class level players but should aim for those who are 'attainable' like VVD or Koulibaly etc or those we can polish a bit and hope they get to that level like the RS did with Suarez.

Currently I don't see that with the 22-29 age group

Our "jewels"?! Sweet suffering Christ, that's gotta be the most ridiculous thing I've ever read on here and that really takes some doing! Those "jewels" your talking about delivered nothing, absolutely nothing here. They all failed miserably if you want to be blunt about it and the biggest contribution all four of them made for us was the profit we sold them for. Dry your eyes and change your sheets lad, you've had a mare here!

And you didn't understand the point of the post...

If we sign Siguurdson, a good forward, and a good centre half, then our squad and starting XI are both miles better. And we are closer to winning something. We won nothing with these 'jewels'. We didn't look like winning anything, not even close.

If we sign Sigurdsson, and a couple of good players then we will have a good squad, not a great one.

To be fair those were the players who we all pinned our hopes on, the ones to build our team around and for one magical season it seemed to work out quite well.

But like you say for a multitude of reasons they didn't deliver on the promise or had already started thinking of things away from Everton. From the results we have put out in preseason it looks like we won't miss any of them too much.

Hopefully by the time Barkley has been sold we will have had the best part of £170M from them which has rebuilt our team into something that looks a bit more solid, so for that I thank them.

Lukaku was always going to leave. Stones' head was turned by a club with ridiculous wealth that challenges for titles and offered ridiculous money for him! He has hardly shone since either. Barkley is the only real shame. Seems he has fallen out with Koeman but I think it shows his mindset. Doesn't look like he is willing to fight for a place but rather, expects to play. Delofoeu was a luxury and not anywhere near the player some seem to think (Manny Fernandes MkII).

If you think Moyes would have kept them all with offers like that you are mad! We will move on and I feel we will be better in the long term.
