Champions League revamp

I remember World Series Cricket being "the end of Cricket" but it ended up actually being good for Cricket. I imagine that some might argue that this may be a similar outcome but there are stark differences between to two & anyone telling us otherwise will also try and sell us a Bridge.

But, just like WSC, their competition & trophies will become meaningless & forgotten over time.

What's interesting with WSG of cricket though, is those who went along with it lost out, while the wider game they left behind benefited.

This all hinges on their idea that this replaces the UEFA Champion's League, they have the funding lined up, roughly $400 million per club.

They expect to remain in their domestic leagues, because otherwise the clubs are playing roughly 20 "competitive" matches a season.

Solution is simple, boot them from the domestic competitions and they'll be forced to make the decision of which their creditors think is the more viable income stream.
It is a simple consequence. UEFA dont have the powerplay here. The premier , Italian league and la liga do. A straight ban on those clubs from competing in their leagues would end this joke show immediately. Kick em out this morning and they will be back cap in hand this afternoon 100%. Their clubs would not survive otherwise longterm. It's simple, ruthless but needs balls.

These greedy clubs won't be satisfied with whatever UEFA give them so I think they need to call their bluff, expel them from their national leagues and fight it out in court.

FIFA, UEFA and the PL have the power to kill this stone dead if they hold the line.

Whether they will or not remains to be seen.
It’s all a matter of weather they have the balls to do it
It can be killed off quite quickly if they put their mind to it
The 6 clubs given 24 hrs to withdraw from the super league
If they don’t they are expelled from the PL with immediate effect
No trophies or titles this year
6 teams from the championship promoted and no relegation
FA award Leicester the FA cup and the Carabao cup is abandoned for this year
No player registered for any of the six is allowed play for England Scotland Wales or NI in the Euros
If the Spainish and Italian leagues followed suit it would die a death
However money will talk and the super league will be postponed and the super league clubs will get a bigger share of the pie and guaranteed European spots

Rawk seems split on the matter:

I agree with most that this looks a bad idea but can we afford to be noble and pass it up knowing that other teams(Everton?) would gladly take our place? It doesn’t mean that we can’t influence the competition from within and it may evolve to be something more palatable to fans(or this may just be a bargaining ploy by the likes of manu and us for more media rights).
I just find it hilarious that Gary Neville and other English media are invoking YNWA(maybe in the hope that Liverpool fans will mobilise against this) when we have been denigrated and despised by the rest of the country for decades(but they want us to continue to subsidise their football teams).

This is what makes me laugh though...

They're so pathetically deluded it's painful. They're adamant that the Premier League and UEFA are conspiring against them, and expect that they should be bending over backwards to accommodate their greed.

It's not a case of "passing it up", like it is with the likes of Bayern/Spurs/City etc... they're the forerunner of the formation, alongside Manchester United, because they want more of a share of the revenue, because they attract the most fans. Well unfortunately, as you can see with Spain and it's Primera Division, in which Barca and Real (then followed by Atletíco) make up over 2/3 of the TV Money, which makes a very lop sided, boring league.

The irony is that as much as we need them, they need us, and as a part of being in the Premier League, you're contributing to it's entertainment and enjoyment and should be equally rewarded, but no, this is Liverpool afterall, and everyone has an agenda against them.

I’m very much with this line of thinking.

Appeasement is not a solution. All of the governing bodies need to band together to punish these clubs harshly. Anything less will lead to this happening again and again until it actually goes through.

Arsenal and Spurs oh my...

I wonder if Arsenal and Spurs (for example) have considered the logical next step down this road, which is when the 'Big Six' of the European Super League threaten to leave and join a World Franchise League involving Beijing, KL, New York, Dubai, etc. unless they are given a bigger slice of the profits.
