Champions League revamp

They want more games not less. The Man Us of this world, want every game to be important. They don't want filler matches like against Burnley or Stoke.

People thinking about 'legal' issues to take down the Super League. There's really nothing stopping them from doing this. They could broadcast this on youtube if they wanted to. They have zero problems giving up the local fanbase, because the international fanbase, or rather the mainstream, fair weather supporters just want big matches every week. They're not the ones travelling home and away to games and going to pubs and things. They just watch it on cable tv, maybe throw a bit of banter around on twitter.

There's no legitimate way to stop these teams from walking away. The NBA realised this fairly on which is why the players take 50% of the revenue, and gets renegotiated every time. And even then the way these player contracts and money is distributed is heavily in favour of 'star' players, where one player will take a mega contract $200m contract and 6 or 7 other guys on the team ride out the bench on minimum wages. When it comes to money, nothing is fair and equal.

Make it 80 points.

We know why Leicester misses out - these teams are run by a cartel of gangsters. Leicester has never been in the conversation as a perennial top 6 club in the last 20 years let alone 5 years.

But that's where the disconnect is. The idea that this league makes every game "important". It's the opposite effect as there is no winning or losing in it.

If they have to play Burnley to win the league and lose...that's what the importance is. Every game counts at the end of a season. You lose to the "filler" you don't achieve anything.

It's literally plastic armchair, and sounding horribly xenophobic, international fans that have no connection to the clubs if playing Real in a fake competition is more exciting than playing Fulham on a jam packed football schedule 3pm on a Saturday.

Gary Neville leading the charge, at least the fans have a loud voice on the TV, nice to see all the pundits condemn it.

I’ll believe him when he turns down the pundit gig on the new network covering this. If all these pundits genuinely believe what they say then none of them will be signing up to it but in reality they’ll sit for the media storm to die down and then happily take the fat pay cheque.

So it goes ahead, said club joins does well finishing 6th from bottom but get relegated because the 5 below can’t be...
What???

Most Asian fans i know choose a team based on the players in that team...

If those teams are playing in the big games then they are into the match and seeing how the competition unfolds becomes secondary...and they'll watch now and again and check on the results here and there.

The key is that there are gaps between the matches. Its an 'occasion' for them to see a 'big game' at the top of the table or in a cup and something to look forward to.

Remove the competition and theyre watching glorified friendlies...its the same as the exhibition matches that have taken place in the US and Asia.

How many Asian fans watch those summer exhibition matches? The stadiums are packed as its an 'occasion' but would they all tune in on pay per view?

No chance.

I agree with most of that. But they're still going to watch, because they (Asian/American) fans might not see this as an act of betrayal. I mean that's just my guess honestly, they might just see this as teams moving into a much bigger competition where they're playing a really tough game every week. 99% of premier league fans in Asia follow one of the top 4 teams. They don't care about the championship, league one/two, FA Cup minnows, or even any of the other premier league clubs. It's just a reason to watch football, and picking a side gives them something to root for which makes it slightly more interesting.

Something else in Asia which is a little more political, the disparities are so far apart between the working class and the wealthy, it almost creates this aspiration to become wealthy. People don't resent the wealthy here, they just see it as something to aspire to. Like I just can't stand the wealthy, but to most other people, there's an admiration that wealthy people are so successful and that's a good thing, which is why people don't follow Everton or Leicester or West Ham, they follow Arsenal, Man U, Liverpool, Chelsea, a top club with lots of money and buying players and all that. And they do it, even when they're paid rock bottom wages, and don't question the entire absurdity of being swindled out of the profits of their labour.

It only works if they are excluded from the league as long as they are playing in the non UEFA competition?

What they want, in essence, is to play in a new midweek competition that guarantees them forevermore a £300m a season advantage, whilst still playing in the Premier League.

No chance. Relegate them or, as said above (and to be honest, the more complete answer), revoke them from the football league entirely.

It is a simple consequence. UEFA dont have the powerplay here. The premier , Italian league and la liga do. A straight ban on those clubs from competing in their leagues would end this joke show immediately. Kick em out this morning and they will be back cap in hand this afternoon 100%. Their clubs would not survive otherwise longterm. It's simple, ruthless but needs balls.
Exactly. The teams need the league much more than the league needs those teams.

Not for the foundation members.

It's like joining a cult, the elders get to have their way with you as often as they like and they can never be removed.

Imagine looking at Joel Glazier and thinking "yeah, he's the man with the long term vision and sustainable business model my club needs, I'm in!"
There’s no relegation for anyone, because the other 5 spots are all on a yearly qualification basis.

This is the tool. If they have withdrawn from SL eventually. Points deduction and ban from Euro for say a season or two.

How's there no winning/losing to it? There'll be a winner at the end of the season, and there'll be a team at the bottom that loses a lot of games. That team is the 'filler'. And Arsenal and Spurs have decided they're ok with being the filler for 300m.
