Champions League revamp

So it goes ahead, said club joins does well finishing 6th from bottom but get relegated because the 5 below can’t be...
What???

How do they even decide how & what 5 teams from across Europe qualify...

And with the financial imbalance, a new team coming into for 1 season would be like a League 1 team being promoted to the Prem league...they'll be total cannon fodder...

Then, say Leicester are asked to join as 1 of these 5 clubs for next season...and the following season they don't make the grade...are they then excepted back into the UEFA umbrella, and allowed play in the Champions league again?....ofcourse not...its a farce...

It’s all a matter of weather they have the balls to do it
It can be killed off quite quickly if they put their mind to it
The 6 clubs given 24 hrs to withdraw from the super league
If they don’t they are expelled from the PL with immediate effect
No trophies or titles this year
6 teams from the championship promoted and no relegation
FA award Leicester the FA cup and the Carabao cup is abandoned for this year
No player registered for any of the six is allowed play for England Scotland Wales or NI in the Euros
If the Spainish and Italian leagues followed suit it would die a death
However money will talk and the super league will be postponed and the super league clubs will get a bigger share of the pie and guaranteed European spots

If these clubs want to go off and play friendly matches with one another then UEFA and the domestic leagues just need to boot them out.

FIFA should issue a statement that only players competing outside of superleague can play internationals.

Give them a deadline to decide.

Meanwhile, remove FFP and watch new teams emerge in the domestic leagues overnight.

I agree with most of that. But they're still going to watch, because they (Asian/American) fans might not see this as an act of betrayal. I mean that's just my guess honestly, they might just see this as teams moving into a much bigger competition where they're playing a really tough game every week. 99% of premier league fans in Asia follow one of the top 4 teams. They don't care about the championship, league one/two, FA Cup minnows, or even any of the other premier league clubs. It's just a reason to watch football, and picking a side gives them something to root for which makes it slightly more interesting.

Something else in Asia which is a little more political, the disparities are so far apart between the working class and the wealthy, it almost creates this aspiration to become wealthy. People don't resent the wealthy here, they just see it as something to aspire to. Like I just can't stand the wealthy, but to most other people, there's an admiration that wealthy people are so successful and that's a good thing, which is why people don't follow Everton or Leicester or West Ham, they follow Arsenal, Man U, Liverpool, Chelsea, a top club with lots of money and buying players and all that. And they do it, even when they're paid rock bottom wages, and don't question the entire absurdity of being swindled out of the profits of their labour.

You definitely have a different take on "Asian" people and fans to me.

i assume youre referring to one or perhaps two countries?

Japan / Singapore / S.Korea dont make sense in your 'disparity of wealth' argument.

99.9% of Filipinos dont watch football.

How's there no winning/losing to it? There'll be a winner at the end of the season, and there'll be a team at the bottom that loses a lot of games. That team is the 'filler'. And Arsenal and Spurs have decided they're ok with being the filler for 300m.

Whats the 'spectacle' ?

The games arent going to be more than the summer tournaments which have been held in Asia in the past.

That was a 'novelty'. People didnt watch those much on tv did they ?

I don't think Malaysian (for example) fans have any more interest in watching a dead rubber than local fans.
It's just not a competitive game.

Malaysia is an interesting one...

How many Malays will subscribe to pay per view or an additional channel for this?

Not many i imagine.

Shebby Singh as the host lol

Say we qualified for this thing and had a stormer and went on and won it but had a proper crap prem season and didn’t finish in a qualifying spot (assuming there’s a qualifying process determined on domestic league standing) Would we not be in it the following season?

I mean when you look back, it's just years of over-respect from the Premier League, the Sky Love in, the jealousy from foreign clubs, the need to be "competitive", thats all it comes down to.

Liverpool, Man Utd & Arsenal want more, sides like Spurs, Arsenal, Milan don't want to play multiple European Qualifiers to make Europe, so UEFA created a third competition to reduce game load.

Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus, made absolutely no secrets that they want financial parity to with teams like this, and security of the CL prizefund each season, how do you do that? Jump into bed with them.

I'm more than certain is that they'll go to the other Premier League teams, who are smaller than ourselves, and negotiate themselves a bigger slice of the cake, basically diluting the league and they'll stay.

It stinks, it's absolutely disgusting.
They feel entitled to the money despite half of them not earning anything over recent years. Honestly, this whole thing is genuinely sickening. At a time like this, football has been such an outlet for people genuinely struggling. The whole industry is a bubble, they want to grow the bubble. I think the bubble just burst. I effing hope so anyway as its corrupt to the core.

5 teams qualify each year meaning 5 need removing.

So, the five teams that get 'relegated' every season are the five non-founding members - every season.
They will be replaced by a new five teams every seaon None of the permeanent teams will ever be 'relegated'
So even if one of the non-permanent sides finishes runner up in the ESL, they could be kicked out for the next year

He’s right
Relegate the scum United and Arsenal
I’m fact they should be sounds like ducked out of the league

He is right - couldnt agree with his words more. As I said yesterday, I dont disagree with a word he said; but when you own a football club pushing the boundaries of financing, collect your massive wages from the PL and have a huge interest in maintaining the status quo there is touch of hypocrisy from it.

That said kudos to him for going big, but he did go big to maintain one cartel in his interests rather than another

Everyone on here is pretty robust in their condemnation of this idea, myself included. Just a thought though . . 12 Clubs have signed up but there is said to be a further three yet to do so. What if Everton were to announce that they are one of the three, be honest, what would your reaction be then?

Mad thing is it was probably the likes of the PL, UEFA & FIFA who ratified their takeover of their clubs.

Could see it coming from miles away this.
Exactly.
The only surprise is that we are surprised.
As a City fan I can honestly say that if (and I think its a very big if) this goes ahead I will never, ever
step foot inside a football stadium to watch them ever again. Not as though they will even give a toss
of course. Like a lot of fans I was already disillusioned but this just kills it. Even if it doesn't go ahead
it kills it. If it's not this it will be something similar. They are hell bent on a European league so they
can extract as much money as possible out of the game and the fans. Not for me.
