Champions League revamp

Laughing at Sky here.

They basically paid the top teams to leave the Football league and create the Premiership and have pouring money into it ever since.

The Clubs wouldn't be doing it if there TV money wasn't already there, for them to risk going public like this. Sky are just moving in on UEFA's cut of the money by cutting them out all together, they will just deal with the clubs directly in future.

UEFA were extracting the urine, they want to expand the "Champions League" even further because it is their big Cash Cow. The big clubs are fed up with having to fly to the middle of nowhere midweek every few weeks when they are now playing 2-3 days before and after it domestically. The New Euro League would allow clubs and the fans to plan better. No more draws for a fortnight's time where suddenly the team and the supporters have to work out how the hell they are going to get to Azerbaijan and back.
Yes, allowing the likes of Swindon town, Barnsley, Reading, Bradford City, Blackpool, Bournemouth a day in the sun - not a chance of any minnows rubbing shoulders with this ESL lot.

I think there should have been a different split in the european competition. I think that instead of Uefa creating the Uefa Conference under the Europa League and filling it with more low ranking teams, they should have used that to restructure the whole thing. Making the exiting Champions League with less teams. But without the founder members nonsense, teams would still qualify through their domestic competitions. The problem for Uefa is that they would have struggled to get this through the voting, because they would have been asking their members to agree to a cut of 12 places to the existing champions league and giving the premier league 2 extra places.

Now that this is on the table I could see a negotiation between uefa and these 12 clubs. If they agree to it being a competition that all teams have to qualify for, that sits above the existing 3 uefa competitions then I think it will go ahead and I dont think it will be a bad thing for premier league teams. If its a closed shop or even "semi closed", I think its terrible for football

Isn't this just what the Premier league did in the 90's? Breaking away from the football league? The only real difference is they kept promotion and relegation. These teams are having 5 places for qualification in the new competition.

One was revitalising English football, as it was on its knees following the European Ban and the other was ruining club competitions as far as I can see.

Anyone English team can earn the right to play in the Premier League, or lose their right, whereas here you've had to be "chosen" to play, and even if you lose 10-0 every game, and you're a founding member, you're still rolling away with it.

The difference is they are in breach of rules laid out by the governing bodies. It is a black and white issue. This now comes down to whether FIFA, uefa and the premiere league have the balls to act and if they are genuinely not involved at some level in the formation of this super League (remember the little gobshite Rick parry being secretly involved in the last discussions).
Ok, so let's say they get kicked out, the sponsors would take legal action because the top 6 are the top 6 because of the money they bring in, then we would have to accept a pay cut as would the players which wouldn't happen as most people think and they would want a move to this super league

I mean come on, how absurd this is lol

20 teams, 15 of those teams ( the founding members ) can't ever get relegated out of it. 5 other teams can qualify and in reality could finish 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th but because the others can't relegate themselves, then the top 5 new promoted teams would be relegated lol lol lol

They need to either be kicked out of our league or relegated or points deducted to ensure they're relegated. It's absolutely ridiculous what they're proposing and there's no going back now. All 6 clubs from England will always now be known as an absolute shambles and embarrassment, lacking any integrity and blatantly showing that they are a gang of greedy knobheads

Comparing this to the PL is a horrendous take in my opinion.

Have the same 20/22 teams played every season since 92/93? Do we not have promotion and relegation every May? Do points in the league not count towards European places?

This is a proposal for a closed shop league, the premier league is not. Yes there are issues with the PL of course and plenty of issues they can be criticised on. But to suggest this is a similar scenario is bizarre, incoherent and has no basis.
There are many differences but let’s not forget that the principle of establishing a separate league with the intention of greater wealth for it’s members was started by the establishment of the Premier League. Everything else has followed that “ more for the few” model.
