Champions League revamp

Has anyone seen / read a balanced view of the ESL idea? I understand the anti-ESL sentiment, but don't really know a balanced view of why the clubs have signed up to it, apart from money / greed. If that's the case, how is it different from 1992 and the formative of the premier league?
I guess the protection against relegation means it's unlike anything that's gone before it. You could make an argument that unbridled wealth of a handful of clubs in the PL makes relegation a non-issue. For all West Ham's great run this season, they're only ever a couple of transfer windows away from a relegation battle.

The Premier League was just a rebranding exercise that maintained the sporting integrity of the league system.

The ESL is a whole different kettle of fish which will ruin leagues and related businesses across Europe.
It's for exactly the same end result - to make the rich richer.
Not much has changed since 1992 - just more Noughts on the end of the bottom line

Not having a pop mate, I just think you're in bit of dreamland if you thank Farhad Moshiri is turning to £3bn to have a club in the European Super League alongside the best teams in Europe. He's building us a £500m new stadium to do exactly that.

Can say for any degree of certainty, but I think it's about looking realistically.

Possibly, isn't that sad though that the owner is "the club"?

There would be a massive division within the club if it happened.

15 clubs run it 'the founding members' although only 12 now (think this was meant to inclubde Bayern, Dortmund and PSG) who have refused

Those 15 members make the rules and cannot be relegated, regardless of where they finish.

5 clubs will be invited to join each year, not through winning anything, just because. They wont earn much but should be grateful to be there.

Founding members get £400m for existing but the winner if the league only gets an extra £30m

So basically you can come last every year, no consequenses and still pick up £££.
Said it before but it's one step removed from match fixing

First of all, let me be clear. I have a local team that I support, I go to games when possible. I also visit lower league games, there's plenty of football for me to 'enjoy' on that level.

Now, when I'm watching CL footie, and paying top dollar to watch it (and tie myself contractually with my ISP for years as they're the only ones that provide CL in my country), I want the best games possible. Honestly, I don't want to watch teams like Red Star, Apoel, and similar, holding on for their dear lives for 90s mins, trying to not let in more than 5 goals per half.

The CL is not a quality product, and it's becoming worse and worse each year by letting minnow clubs have an easier route in, and by letting in even 4th placed teams from some domestic championships.

I just want good effing football, if Superleague is to happen, it'd guarantee that. Richest clubs with best players. Fine by me. Bring it on. As long as they don't dilute the quality of the league by expanding.

And yeah, I love the NBA type of league. Would be nice if they banned player buying/Selling in Superleague and instead just have player for player trades within the league.

Btw didn't Everton already told the "propa football" to eff off back in the 1990? You know, Premierleague founders and all that?
Why are you on this forum, you’re clearly no Evertonian with that “opinion”

Let me start from the bottom.

As founders of the Premier League, we didn't eradicate relegation, we didn't stop progression, competitiveness. There's a difference. The Premier League was founded and 22 teams got an equal share of TV Money. It was balance to a degree. How can you have a competition where theres no relegation, there's no interest for midtable, there's no motivation.

Champions League you don't want Red Star or APOEL who are there on merit, and not finishing 4th or not even near it like Arsenal. "Minnows" like Red Star who have won a European Cup in the last 30 years, they've only became minnows due to the big teams wanting more and more.

"Good Effing Football" is what you want? So it's fine for the big teams to receive an additional €400m, then compete with Everton and wipe the floor with us? I'm assuming you don't support Everton, because there are absolutely no benefits for Everton in a Super League being created.

I just don't think you get it, at all. Yes, lets ruin years of amazing academy work, and throw all kids into a lottery.... seems fair.

Liverpool fans wondering if Klopp would walk, like he's some sort of virtuous messiah of the masses.

He'll no comment and trundle on, obviously, you deluded bunch of cultist bells. He'll leave Liverpool the moment something better comes about.
