Champions League revamp

Who would be interested in watching football if there was no 'sport' to it?

A closed shop where a select group have guaranteed participation immediately makes it stale. It automatically doesn't mean much, so won't have the prestige or draw that the genuinely massive football moments (World Cup semi finals, Champions League QF penalty shoot-outs, title-deciding PL games etc) have.
This ESL would literally just be like watching the Harlem Globetrotters or the WWE something. Football as an exhibition/entertainment product for making money and not a competition.

Of course it is.

Henry and Kroenke are despicable. Glazer's equally as bad, but with out the former two, there's no way he gets this over the line.

As an avid follower of US Sports, i can assure you that whilst they're exciting, when you get teams like Pittsburgh Pirates, who've made three playoff appearances in 30 years, and regularly have the worst record in baseball, what's the point? Imagine Burnley finishing with 3 points every season, but it's okay cause theyre making money.

It's effective, it's dramatic, but only 6-7 teams can really get excited. It's not football. Leave it with the Americans.

Fair enough, but you did it for money, and for your own best interests. THat's the same thing the clubs are doing now. Money and their best interest. But now you're the ones being told to eff off.

I'm just saying, from a consumer standpoint, the superleague is a product I'd want to consume, and will if it happens.

And depends how you define "support", yeah I like the club, one of rare Brit clubs that are likeable. That's about it, like seeing Everton win, dislike seeing them lose. As I said, I have my own team. Rest are just distractions.
Dude bugger off man.

Its not "capitalism" in the truest sense, its corrupt generational wealth.

Anyway, youre not really talking about Asia.....just malaysia.

The main reason i think that Malaysians have been watching English football above others is because there is still alot of British influence in Malaysia. Of course the culture is different but there are many things there which have been influenced by Britain.

Of course though the premier league is the best in the world and understanding English helps.

Again though, they didnt exactly jump onto the tv to watch the summer tournaments in Asia or US did they?

If tomorrow those 6 clubs ceased to exist you can bet your life that within a short space of time those same Malaysians will be 'cheering on' another team in the league and supporters group names will have changed.

So many of them switch between RS and United depending on how the wind blows anyway.

When you say "top 6 in the prem" im not sure youre grasping the fact that in the super league there are no incentives to win games?

Theres quite literally no competition and no advantage for them to compete at all.

The other thing you havent mentioned is that supporters clubs in Malaysia will be reading the online forums and media and seeing the uproar.

They will likely side with their clubs local fans.

Well it is capitalism - because i see it with my own eyes. The owner literally takes all the profits, and pays the bare minimums to its workers, the workers will forever be in the working class. It's literally not the same as in Australia where there's at least some semblance of socialism, like I can get paid $20 an hour for working at McDonalds. In Malaysia you make $10 a day. Same goes for all over Asia, aside from some of their wealthier nations as I said before like Singapore, Japan, S. Korea, but even there its nowhere near like some European or Australian countries. You might get 700 yen an hour in Japan for working at Family Mart.

Sure some people may still watch the premier league, because some are just premier league fans, but i bet most are fans of either the players or the teams or the wealth represented by these teams, because they can buy the players therefore guaranteeing entertaining games. I agree there's less incentive to win games for the team or the players, but for fans who are watching, it isn't less, its exactly the same incentive, there's still a super league title. How will you all know if Ronaldo doesn't try as hard? Everything will just normalise.

Also I'm mostly talking about the fairweather fans here, I'm sure there's plenty of diehards in Malaysia and Asia who actually care about what happens to the clubs and how it affects the premier league as I do. I'm just saying that basically I see these rich clubs eyeing the sport as a global thing, and there not going to let some criticism from its fans at home stop them from making money. I mean I could be wrong, I'm just giving an opinion here - but they're betting there's more people out there (globally) who want a super league than watching Man U play 28 meaningless games against the other 14 teams in the prem. I hate it, but then if I ask myself - what would a casual fan think they'd have no opinion either way, which is why they're doing this, because there's way more casual fans out there than hardcore fans. It's like an all star game - casual fans like all star games.

To me - its like they're just hi jacking the clubs for their global fanbase. That's all it is with zero respect for everything else.

Genuine question, who do you actually support, if you don't support Everton?

For an English person, who's grown up with football on the streets, with a thriving league. There are huge differences between the Premier League and the Super League. Scunthorpe United can get promoted to the Premier League, win the Champions League... it realistically will not happen, but it STILL CAN..

Now, if I am invited to go to participate in this competition, automatically i'm earning less than 66% of the money any of the founders are earning, so how am I making a competitive team? As soon as I get a good team, the big teams can pick it off, how is it a sellable product?

Load of bull, making themselves out as sheep following the crowd. If 2 of these clubs (like City/Chelsea) pull out or refuse then its a smaller pool. Reckon they didnt see the Bayern, Dortumund, PSG refusals coming and are bricking it

“Oh am so sorry love, I didn’t want to smash your best mate but I was absolutely powerless as I penetrated her several times.”

Let's go Superleague, march on to victory! Save us from UEFA corruption and diluted CL competition!

Anyone who supports tournaments where participation is not determined on merit, is not a sports fan.

Not to mention that this league is a losers league put together by chairmen to ensure that losing clubs are guaranteed places and the wealth that entails.

It's a truly horrid and objectionable proposal that turns my stomach. Not to mention the fact that it will eventually flop as a concept when the novelty wears off and the so called "legacy fans" are no longer there to support these clubs.

I honestly wouldn't be totally shocked to see City/Chelsea drop out.
